Ben Stiller from Cosmo U.K. / Museum Still Number One
Thanks to JayJo from the wilson-brothers.com forums for the scan.
Ben comments on his dating history, the Frat Pack, and how he enlisted Ricky
Gervais for Night at the Museum.
"Did I call him up and ask him to be in it - yeah! I said 'Look, I did Extras, will you do my movie?!'"
Night at the Museum was number one again at the box office, grossing $38 million according to estimates. The movie has made approximately $116 million to date.

Wedding Crashers was Top Rental at Blockbuster for 2006
"Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson have crashed another party, coming
first in the hearts of American movie lovers with their bad boy antics in
"Wedding Crashers." The comedy tops the list of most rented movies
at Blockbuster in 2006, both in-store and online." The Break-Up
was number eight on Blockbuster's
Top 10 list.

I LOVED LOVED LOVED this movie!!! Classic Ben Stiller. I love it when he runs
fast. Cracks me up every time. Owen was great, too. Roy O'Bannon revisited.
There was laughter throughout the entire film from kids and adults alike.
This movie was all that I had hoped it would be. I laughed and enjoyed this
even more than Talladega Nights.
4 stars
Tic Tac
Took my two little girls and they enjoyed it. It had very good cast, Robin
Williams and Owen were good but I found the Roman guy really funny. This is
worth going to see, the effects were excellent too. Can't wait for DVD.
Drew Hunt
But I just saw this film, and thoroughly enjoyed it. I think my inner eight-year-old
was in full force, cause I loved the action sequences as much as I did Ben.
SO HAPPY to see him back on the big screen, especially with Owen. Those two will never, ever cease to amaze me. It's a great time. GO SEE IT!
MCD
Well I went to the coolest birthday party on Saturday (though no one should
have a kids b-day party 2 days before Xmas). Anyways my daughter was going
to a party with twenty two 8-10 yr olds to Night at the Museum. We had seen
it Friday - I didn't know that was the movie they were going to see. I was
a last minute recruit by the mom as an extra set of eyes in the theater (free
ticket Ben and Owen why not?).
I really enjoyed it more the second time - even with twenty two kids who all loved it! And we had a big sheet cake (that had a the movie poster graphics on it - I'm not sure how she had that done but it was awesome - and great goody bags including flashlights and mini yellow hummers and bubble gum as well as a book she made up (which was a history lesson) that detailed many of the historical figure's lives! I guess she had sent an older child and husband on Friday to take notes on who the historical characters featured - incredibly done (though she must have stayed up all night or employed Kinkos).
I really enjoyed the last 10-15 minutes of the movie with the kids it was a pretty fun and I appreciated Ben and Owen more this time around!

The fantasy laugher also stars Owen Wilson, Robin Williams, Ricky Gervais,
Steve Coogan, Carla Gugino, and Kim Raver. Paul Rudd has a short but funny

Paul Rudd's Woman Delayed. Again.
Our
Senior Editor Rick Duran did some digging and discovered that the Paul Rudd/Michelle
Pfeiffer RomCom I Could Never Be Your Woman is now without
a release date.
Rick writes "The only way I'll forgive them is if they're trying to capitalize on post-Knocked Up success. But that's just wishful thinking. Since Super Bad is being pushed to October 12 (according to IMDb), maybe this will get the August 17th date. You know what? No, I won't forgive them. The trailer seems decent, nothing that warrants being pushed back more than Envy."
The film was originally to be released this past summer, then had release dates for Valentines Day and March 2007.
Earmuff Awards and Frat Pack Man of the Year
The timeline for the 2006 Frat Pack Earmuff
Awards has been announced. Ballots will be completed by January 1, 2007
and nomination ballots are due by January 18, 2007. Nominees will be announced
on January 21st. I'll be contacting people who have contributed to the site
to help and vote, but drop us a line if you'
d like to help.
Another project will be the awarding of the Frat Pack Man of the Year. Ben Stiller won the award in 2004 and Steve Carell won it last year. Who will win this year? Vote in our Man of the Year poll over at the Frat Pack Forum.
DVD Review: My Super-Ex Girlfriend
The
Super-Ex DVD includes a full or widescreen presentation of the movie.
I laughed several times watching the movie again on DVD, and my critique of
the third act has softened somewhat. And I must emphasize again what a fabulous
job Luke Wilson does in this movie.
In terms of extras, there are five deleted scenes that provide a couple good laughs from Luke and Uma, along with more backstory for the G-Girl and Bedlam storylines. The DVD also includes an extended shark sequence, one of the highlights of the movie.
Overall, this isn't the most feature-packed DVD, but the movie's availabilty on home video does provide an opportunity for those who missed the movie in theatres to experience this enjoyable, funny, and often charming film.

Drillbit Taylor Casting News
Insult comic Lisa Lampanelli has been cast a bully's mother in Owen Wilson's
upcoming comedy, Drillbit Taylor. Lampanelli
says "Owen Wilson thinks it's kind of an important role, even though it's
small, because you do something that really impacts him," and I'm like, "Oh
my God!" So I write all my own lines. I had to go into this acting teacher,
and we're like, "What's my motivation?" and all that bullshit. And I'm one
of the bullies' moms, and I have to be totally hardcore Lampanelli."
I suspect Lampanelli is taking the part that was rumored to be filled by Jack Black some weeks ago. Known for her foul language, Lampanelli's involvement may bode well for those looking for an edgier comedy rather than one that is family-friendly.

First Fan Review for Night at the Museum
"Boo"
from The
Wilson's message board posted this mini review:
I just got back from seeing NITM, and it was freaking awesome. I loved it!
A great family movie. Owen definitely has more than a cameo role in this movie. There are some very funny scenes between him and Steve Coogan, the pair of them steal the show, as usual. The best scene is their scene when they make it back to the museum which is in slowmo to add even more humour, it's a real Armageddon spoof. I so want to tell you the funniest bits, but it would be a real shame to give some of the plot details away.
Owen's lines are funny too. Bits riffed from other movies, i.e. Brokeback, and lines from You, Me and Dupree. Do go out to see it pronto, you'll not be disappointed.

John Hodgman and Justin Long, the PC and Mac from Apple's Get A Mac commercials,
were both awarded 2006 Garfield Bobby Awards for their performances as different,
yet friendly, computers. The awards, according to Advertising Age, are given
based on the quality and memorability of the commercials.
Here's what Advertising Age had to say about Mr. Hodgman, Mr. Long, and the Get A Mac commercials:
"The hands-down winners this year are Justin Long and John Hodgman, better known to you as Mac and PC in the campaign for Apple Computer (TBWA/Chiat/Day.) Hodgman is a PC, earnest and uptight, and Long is a Mac, casually cool. Yes, PC is a doffs, but what so distinguishes these performances is how the two interact -- affably and respectfully, in spite of the central premise. Long is cool not because he's ultra-hip but because he's laid-back and confident, minus any trace of condescension."

Night at the Museum Premiere in New York City
"Night at the Museum," a comedy starring Ben Stiller and
Robin Williams, had its premiere at New York's American Museum of Natural
History. In the film, Stiller plays a museum night watchman shocked to discover
everything comes to life when the sun goes down. Williams plays a statue of
Teddy Roosevelt who offers the anxious guard advice on how to control the
museum's nocturnal population. Director Shawn Levy spoke before Sunday's screening
about trying to capture some of the "magic" of the actual Museum
of Natural History and put it on the big screen.
Stiller and his wife, actress Christine Taylor, his parents, Jerry Stiller and Anne Meara, and his co-stars -- Carla Gugino, Mickey Rooney, Ricky Gervais, Paul Rudd, Rami Malek, Patrick Gallagher and Mizuo Peck -- all attended the event, as did Milos Forman, Michael Imperioli and Adrian Grenier.
Afterward, families were invited to sleep over at the museum and explore its darkened halls with flashlights. Starting next month, the institution's "A Night at the Museum" program will allow the public to camp at the museum on select dates for $79 a person.

Where Does Night at the Museum Fit in the Frat Pack Pantheon
of Films?
A mini-editorial from Rick Duran.
I'm
pretty positive this will be a "good" Frat Pack family film to file
next to Elf and School of Rock.
The key element to Frat Pack classics is they skew the demographic of males 18-34. I know that's not something we normally consider, but that's why the studios greenlit things like Starsky, Dodgeball and Anchorman. Pretty sure drunk college fratboys won't quote NATM as much as, say, The 40 Year Old-Virgin or Talladega Nights. Obviously, the Frat Pack does well with women too, and ages over that demographic. But that is who Hollywood markets these films to.
But then again, NATM will be more of a Frat Pack comedy than The Royal Tenenbaums. It brings up an interesting polar opposite: the family Frat Packfilm. We haven't had anything to compare NATM to, with two of the Fratters (since Elf and School of Rock only had one of the guys starring.)
It is an interesting sub-category that we'll be able to add Evan Almighty and Fred Claus (possibly Drillbit Taylor) to next year.
We've got the classics, the indies/drama and family pics.
2007 - The Year of Paul Rudd?
Based
on the audio breakdown by Brandon Angelilli on the last Frat Pack Podcast,
Rick Duran put this list together, and it sure seems like Paul Rudd will have
a monster year.
Paul Rudd's 2007 Films
Rick says that "'Woman' and Knocked Up seem like genuine hits. Bookend these with a cameo in Night at the Museum in 2006 and a starring role in 2008's Big Brother, and you've got a very promising lineup."
Ben Stiller's Mammoth Expectations
There's a nice article by our friends at Entertainment Weekly about Ben Stiller
and Night at the Museum. Says director Shawn Levy (Cheaper by
the Dozen), "'Ben's never done a live-action family event. He knew
it was risky. Our deal was that I would make sure the movie was edgy and funny
the way a Ben Stiller movie needs to be, and he would make sure it was emotional
and poignant the way a Shawn Levy family film needs to be.'' Read
the complete article.
Plus, make sure to catch Ben on David Letterman on Monday night.
Podcast #102: Get Ready for Ben and Owen in Night at the Museum
We're
back and getting ready for Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson in Night at the
Museum. We have an audio clip from the movie that ought to get you excited
to see more of the legendary Stiller/Wilson chemistry, even if their parts
were filmed separately. There's also some friendly banter between the two
actors and the origin of Owen's character's name, Jed. Brandon "Segaboy Fantana"
returns with a big report on Paul Rudd's upcoming projects and we have another
Frat Pack Confession that's shocking to say the least.

Paul Rudd in I Could Never Be Your Woman Trailer
I can't for the live of me understand why this movie has been delayed,
because it looks like a winner to me! Rudd is hilarious in a dancing scene
that could rvial some of Ben Stiller's greatest and costars Jon Lovitz and
especially Michelle Pfeiffer seem interesting and funny. There's a nice Bruce
Willis reference, too. The movie arrives in theatres on March 2, 2007 (not
Valentines Day as mentioned in the trailer)
Justin Long in Live Free or Die Hard Teaser Trailer
Speaking of Bruce Willis, this isn't the kind of movie we normally
cover, but given the speculation about Frat Pack Pledge Justin Long's role,
we thought we'd share. Remember, there was a statement from Long's publicist
that Long was "a movie star" when it was speculated that Apple dropped
Long from it's Mac ads. The trailer has a nice bit with Justin at the end.
Stiller, Aniston Snubbed by Makers of 24
Jennifer
Aniston has been snubbed in her bid to land a guest spot on her favorite TV
drama 24. The star reportedly put her name forward for a part in the show
but producers turned her down flat - because she's "too recognizable."
Executive producer Joel Surnow says, "You can't put those people on (the
show) because they're too recognizable. They'll take you (viewers) out of
the reality." Aniston wasn't the only big name to be turned down for
a role in "24" by producers - funnyman Ben Stiller was also deemed
too famous for the show, according to TV Guide. (Starpulse)
Kate Hudson Bikini Audition
Kate Hudson talks about the sexiest, funniest scene in You, Me
and Dupree.
Kate Hudson says Owen Wilson made her model bikinis for him on the set of 'You Me and Dupree'. The 27-year-old actress has revealed her co-star - who she has been romantically linked to since splitting from her rocker husband Chris Robinson - loved shooting a raunchy dream sequence with her, because he got to help pick out some swimwear for her to wear.
She told Cosmopolitan magazine: "Owen and the directors came out and we were trying to pick out the bikini for the scene and they made me put on the same one a hundred times."One time Owen goes, 'I like that one - turn around!' And I was like, 'No, no, no!' "It was really funny. It was all in good humor. Some of the bikinis I tried on were super-trashy, well, most of them were, but we all decided that the black crochet one was the way to go."
Kate has also confessed she starved herself before the scene in order to look her best. She added: "The night before I did stop eating at 7.30pm. I remember I was starving at 9pm, thinking, 'Maybe I'll have a hot chocolate...' I love eating at night." (Monstersandcritics)

Will Ferrell Scores Golden Globe Nod for 'Fiction'
Congrats to Will Ferrell for his Golden Globe nomination for Best
Actor (Comedy or Musical) for Stranger Than Fiction. He will be competing
against Talladega Nights co-star Sacha Baron Cohen, Borat!,
Johnny Depp, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest, Chiwetel
Ejiofor, Kinky Boots, and Aaron Eckhart, Thank You for Smoking.
Ferrell was previously Globe-nominated for Supporting Actor in The Producers
last year.

Meanwhile, The Office and Steve Carell scored expected nods for Best TV Series (Musical or Comedy) and Best Actor (Musical or Comedy). The awards will be presented Jan. 15 and televised on NBC. The Hollywood Foreign Press Association has a complete list of nominations.
Incredible Profile of Ben Stiller in USA Today
The kind folks over at USA Today continue to pimp the Fratters. This

the highlights:
Museum Preview on Comedy Central with Stiller Pal Patton Oswald

New York City’s Museum of Natural History. Stiller lets Oswalt in on
some of the film’s secrets, such as fake backdrops, tricks to remembering
pages of dialogue and the hardships of nailing big comic special effects.
Co-star Carla Gugino also drops by and adds a touch of glamour to the tour.

Famous - Vince Vaughn is profiled
One of his first films caught the industry's attention, but Vince Vaughn didn't
catapult to stardom. After this initial success, his career dragged until
the actor found his place in comedies. His hit films Wedding Crashers
and The Break-Up helped make him famous. Now, after more than twenty
movies and a decade on the big screen Vince is calling the shots.

Jack Black Touches Hearts in The Holiday
I
was able to catch The

musical scene with Kate Winslet (and a great cameo from a Frat Pack friend),
and is really touching in this heartwarming tale.
There's no magic mushrooms in this movie, but Jack does get to say the one F-Bomb in this PG-13 rated movie. Go see it !

More Minutes Not Seen in Theaters! (Unrated version)Vince and Jen's Real Life Break-Up
Well, damn. We're actually kind of bummed about this.
"Jennifer and Vince mutually agreed to end their relationship but continue to be good friends today," said representatives Stephen Huvane and John Pisani to People Magazine. Their representatives said the former co-stars decided to end their romance after Aniston visited Vaughn in London in October.

Paul
Rudd and Seann William Scott Ready Buddy Comedy Big Brother
According
to Production Weekly, "Paul Rudd will star opposite Seann William
Scott (Old School) in Luke Greenfield’s comedy Big Brother,
now at Universal. Timothy Dowling penned the script that centers on a
pair of egotistical thirtysometing bachelors who live their life as perpetual
aging frat boys in one long orgy of girls, suds and irresponsibility.
But after one of their romps gets out of hand, a judge orders them to enroll
in a Big Brothers program as part of their court-mandated community service.
Production is tentatively slated for April."
Sounds like this has the right Frat Pack sensibilities.

Jessica Simpson and Luke Wilson Bond on Set of Blonde Ambition
It
looks like our man Luke is turning on the Wilson charm. He was spotted with
his costar in Shreveport, La. where the two are filming Blonde Ambition. The
couple arrived at the upscale club Phoenix Underground so early that there
were more employees there than patrons, according to a source at the club.
At the club, Jessica posed for pictures and chatted with people for about
a half hour before leaving with her costar.(People)
Meanwhile, we have our first look at Simpson on the set.
Reilly and Apatow Ready Musical Biopic Spoof Walk Hard
According
to Production Weekly, "John C. Reilly will make his next project
the musical biopic parody “Walk Hard,” which spoofs the recent
phenomenon of Oscar-baiting musician biographies. Jake Kasdan will direct
from a script he co-wrote with Judd Apatow, goofing on movies like “Beyond
the Sea,” “Walk the Line,” “Ray,’ ‘The
Commitments’ and ‘Great Balls of Fire.” Reilly plays fictional
music legend Dewey Cox, who’s an amalgamation of Johnny Cash, Roy Orbison
and Waylon Jennings and will sing the tunes his own voice. Shooting will start
mid January in Los Angeles."

The new independent film starring Mike Stasko and Daniel Wilson (cousin of
Owen and Luke) called Things to Do is coming to the Gene Siskel Film
Center in Chicago and to the Hollywood Theatre in Portland, Oregon. on January
12th, according to a note from the filmmakers. It's been compared to Bottle

Don't let him fool you. Jack Black is seriously busy, but he's not
about to stop clowning around
There was a nice profile
of Jack Black in the LA Times.
Jack on the Tenacious D tour: "It is the greatest spectacle since Pink Floyd's 'The Wall,' " Black said with just the right tone of grandeur and deeply sincere falsehood. "It's the greatest rock 'n' roll ever unveiled. It's like 'The Wall' and Styx's 'Mr. Roboto,' which a lot of people thought was crap but I know it was genius."
Jack on his romantic part in The Holiday: "Nancy Meyers wrote it for me and that's flattering," he said, again with the Alistair Cooke act. "It's not within my usual realm of experience. But, I was, like, this is a chance to try something different and to work with Kate Winslet, who is a great actor."
Jack on dramatic roles: "The serious roles get you the prizes, but I don't care about the prizes," he said. "Comedy is where I live."

Will Ferrell and Steve Carell Score Satellite Award Best Actor Nominations
The
International Press Academy announced their nominations for film and television.
Will received a nomination for Best Actor (Comedy or Musical) while Steve
scored a nom for his role on The Office. The International Press Academy is
sort of a splinter group of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, the presenters
of the Golden Globes.
Among the notables:
Will Ferrell Gets Big Laughs at Lindsay Lohan's Expense
According
to the New
York Post, Will Ferrell encountered an out of control Lindsay Lohan at
the GQ Magazine 2006 Men of the Year dinner, Wednesday night (see photo).
Overhearing Lohan's tirade about her ex-assistant now working for Jessica
Biel, Will Ferrell turned to Leonardo DiCaprio, Al Gore and Ben Affleck and
said, "Who cares about that freak anymore, anyway?" - setting off
laughter according to observers.
That's something we can imagine Mugatu saying.

Update: MSNBC's Keith Olbermann was in attendance and claims that Lohan was not acting up (and even showed a photo of himself and Will). So, I guess this isn't true.
Incredible Review of Tenacious D in the Pick of Destiny
Justin
Ravitz over at the New York Press made the same points we did but did
so more eloquently.
Yet, Black or no Black, expectations felt lower for Tenacious D in the Pick of Destiny. A pseudo-biopic of the quasi-serious, two-man metal band, that includes Black and Kyle Gass, sounded as doomed-to-snooze as a feature-length “SNL”-inspired movie. Instead, it’s a brisk, tightly paced, laugh-out-loud fairytale/buddy pic with rock-operatic interludes and an outsized sense of absurdity that’s often raunchy and scatological but almost never mean-spirited.
Their swift, rarely dragging journey to creative and emotional fulfillment, to moaning groupies and spontaneously combusting fans, is punctuated by an inspired, motley crew (but no Mötley Crüe) of cameos: Black Sabbath’s Dio as himself; Dave Grohl as an 8-foot, sodomizing, guitar-slinging Satan; Meatloaf as the rock-hating father; Tim Robbins as a knife-wielding, one-legged rock pirate; and executive producer Ben Stiller as a frizzy-haired music store manager hiding an ancient secret. If the potty-mouthed, Tommy-like rock operatic sequences aren’t odd enough, there’s also a dream-hallucination sequence in which JB skips, swims and flies through a psychedelic forest with Sasquatch as he morphs into a mini-Sasquatch himself and is beaten on a park bench by a Cockney-speaking quartet of Clockwork Orange thugs.
Black makes all this surreal stupidity palatable, even authentic, and will draw crowds unfamiliar with Tenacious D. But there’s also something disarming about the sadly quiet, bald, heavier-set KG, a buckster who still takes rent checks from Mom; he’s Patrick Starfish to Black’s SpongeBob. As with The Wedding Crashers, The 40-Year-Old Virgin and Old School, the fratboy raucousness and fart jokes here belie a sweet, honest, sometimes complex, portrait of male friendship and masculine self-acceptance. And it’s the best example yet of what worlds bubble beneath Black’s court jester skin.
Owen Wilson Kills in Night at the Museum Clip
We're trying not to get our expectations too high for this movie,
but Owen hits it out of the park in a new

or bar where we all hang out. At least, if there is, they haven't invited
me. I wasn't in You, Me And Dupree, Owen's last movie, and none of them was
in Talladega Nights with me and actually, nobody gives a shit."
Meanwhile, Jack Black spilled the beans about the Frat Pack, part of Ben Stiller's master plan. “It was Ben Stiller who called up all the top comedians to his headquarters in the Hollywood sign. We meet there and talk about what our plan is to dominate the world of comedy. Tim Robbins works the door and we all have frat pack comedy helicopters. They come out of the O, the O lifts up and out we come, and we meet there and we talk about what our plan is to dominate comedy. Will Ferrell - you take the new Christmas movie. Jack - you go rock."
Does this mean that Jack spoke out of turn? Or is it just a smoke screen by Will to deflect attention?
In all seriousness, maybe Will was having a bad day (turning down $29 million for an Elf sequel will put you in a less-than-jovial mood). Clearly, we love the Frat Pack concept, not because it makes any of the Fratters less important or relevant, but more that we love the concept of our favorite comedic actors working together. And, as the box office showed this year, the movies generally do better when the Frat Pack are together, rather than apart (the movie closest to classic Frat Pack sensibilities was also the biggest grosser - Talladega Nights).
Will, if you're reading this we apologize if this Frat Pack thing got you all wigged out. You know we still love you!
Hathaway Cast In Get Smart with Steve Carell
Well,
it looks like Rachel McAdams isn't going to be in the Get Smart movie
afterall. Instead, ex-Knocked Up star Anne Hathaway will star alongside Steve
Carell in the feature adaptation of Mel Brooks and Buck Henry's sitcom creation.
Peter Segal is directing. Shooting will begin in March.
According to Variety, Hathaway will play the role originated on the small screen by Barbara Feldon. Carell, who most recently wrapped the Tom Shadyac-directed Universal comedy "Evan Almighty," is currently starring for Disney in "Dan in Real Life." He returns to his NBC sitcom "The Office" in January and once he wraps the season, reports for "Get Smart" in March.
Wilson Cousin Makes Mark with Indie Film Things to Do
You
know Owen. You know Luke. You probably also know Andrew. But do you know cousin
Daniel Wilson? He's starring in a new coming of age film Things to Do.
Our European correspondent Mario Bernengo caught the film and brings us his
extensive review of Things to Do.
Mario spoke with the director Ted Bezaire who said the only city that will see it released in theaters for sure is Portland. But, they're hoping to expand from there, hopefully to LA and NY, and up to six cities. It will be available on DVD for sure, though, come next year. The film is already available on video in Canada.
Tenacious D Update
The soundtrack to Tenacious D in the Pick of Destiny debuted at number
8 on the Billboard 200 album chart, selling 80,000 copies. The band's debut
album entered and peaked at No. 33 on The Billboard 200 with 42,000 in 2001,
but spent 43 weeks on the chart and, since its release, has sold 987,000.
Thanks to Rick Duran for digging up the statistics for us.
Meanwhile, the movie made a disappointing $2 million in it's first two days in theatres, good for tenth place. So, get out there and see the movie now. Support the D!

Dupree Debuts on DVD
A reminder that this hilarious summer movie is now available on DVD.
Seth Rogen fans will be tickled by the film's alternate ending
Alternate
Ending: Featuring commentary by directors Anthony & Joe Russo, this
side-splitting alternate ending will leave audiences wanting more!Call Will Ferrell F-Bomb!
Here's part of an interview
with Blades of Glory co-star Will Arnett. Big thanks to Kelley for the
link and the avatar.
You've also got Blades of Glory with Will Ferrell in the works. Who's Will #1 and who is Will #2 on that film?
“Well, I know I’m giving a long pause but easily Will Ferrell is Will #1. We actually have three Wills on that set because one of the directors is Will Speck. So we early on gave each other, we had to come up with nicknames so that we could differentiate between the Wills. I was A-Train because my last name’s Arnett. Ferrell was F-Bomb and Will Speck is The Inspector. That actually worked great. It’d be really funny when you’d see Will Ferrell getting directed by the directors or the camera guy asking him to move to the right a little bit as he’s adjusting the shot saying, you know, ‘Hey F-Bomb, do you mind coming closer to that table? Look, A-Train, we need you to come in a little quicker or deliver this line a certain way.’ That was always an added level of laughter.”

Jack Black Joining Owen Wilson in Drillbit Taylor?
This is definitely not confirmed yet, but there are some pieces coming together.
Thanks to Andrew Hunt for bringing the story to us.
Exhibit 1: Drillbit Taylor's Wikipedia article was edited to add this line: "Jack Black has been brought on as an old nemesis of Drillbit Taylor, and is the father of the biggest bully at the school."
Exhibit 2: One of the child stars of Drillbit is Troy Gentile, who played a young Jack Black in both Tenacious D in the Pick of Destiny and Nacho Libre. I had assumed that Troy Gentile was playing one of the "good" kids. But, what if he was the bully in the movie? Who better to play his dad than Jack Black?
You know we'll be watching this story...
Will Ferrell is GQ's Man of the Year
Well, he shared the award with Leonardo DiCaprio and Jay-Z. Still... There's
a nice article
and some incredible photos over at GQ's website.
Previews of Frat Pack Movies - 2007
Well, this was completely unexpected. About a year from release we now have
a teaser
trailer for Fred Claus (apparently no longer Joe Claus).
Some nice work between Vince Vaughn and Paul Giamati.
Meanwhile, here's a great shot of Owen Wilson from Drillbit Taylor, now set for release in December 2007 (People Magazine). Tribute editor Rick Duran also noted that Leslie Mann (Knocked Up) has joined the cast of the movie that's produced by her husband, Frat Packager Judd Apatow.

Bidding War for Potential Frat Pack Film
Great story with intriquing casting possibilities from Cinematical.
In what the Hollywood Reporter calls an "intense bidding war," New Line Cinema has apparently laid claim to a new comedy script currently called Multiple Mary. The essentials of the apparent golden script focus around a girl with multiple personality disorder who falls in love with two different fellas (one for each personality, you see) who just happen to be -- wait for it -- best friends! Apparently, however, the script is not that good, because after shelling out a whopping $2 million for rights, New Line immediately turned the script over to successful comedy writer and frequent New Line buddy Scot Armstrong. Armstrong has written or worked on a number of successful New Line flicks, and can "attract comedic talent," having written projects for Will Ferrell, Ben Stiller, Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson.
Bringing on Armstrong as a writer would seem to indicate the studio wants to go after some of the aforementioned comedians for the project, meaning we're likely staring down the barrel of another Frat Pack movie. Is this a bad thing? No, not at all. Like most of America, I tend to be generally entertained -- but not blown away -- by the Frat Pack team. I'd love to see some new comedic talent pop up on the radar, however. Any young actors out there who you could see stepping up for a break-out comedy performance?

Incredible, spoiler filled stuff. But it is, as they say, pretty awesome stuff!
This pre-credits section includes the outstanding cameos and singing from
Meat Loaf and Ronnie James Dio! And let's hear it for Troy Gentile (now filming
Drillbit Taylor with Owen Wilson) who does a great job as the young
JB. Note: the clip contains a lot of profanity and drug references. Thanks

Will Ferrell Talks Oscar, Stranger than Fiction, Blades, and Semi-Pro
There's
a nice interview
with Will Ferrell over at Jew Review (the entertainment website for the
chosen people).
JewReview: Do you look at this script and say, ‘This is my Oscar nomination!’
Will Ferrell: "Well, I don’t actually look at the script; I have a team of about 15 people who read it. And if it gets through them, I have my dog look at it, just kind of sniff it; if he gives me a look – which sometimes, I don’t know if he’s giving me a look or if he’s just hungry. I’ll decipher that, and then I’ll read it."
Will Denies Elf, Anchorman, Talladega, Old School sequels
According to Will Ferrell, recent reports suggesting that a sequel to his
2003 comedy “Anchorman” is in the works are bogus. Ferrell says
he’s about as interested as doing a sequel to that as he is another
of his hits, “Elf” (another sequel he recently turned down). “Yeah,
no I think that's because I said that, "oh that might be fun." But
then it got written, "Anchorman" two in the works, you know”,
Ferrell tells ComingSoon.net. “Yeah I guess if you stop and think about
it there's a lot of pressure, but I can't worry about it.”
And though there’s a script for an “Old School” sequel
on his desk – titled “Old School Dos”, Ferrell says it’s
unlikely he’ll do it. Despite rumours the contrary, Ferrell says he
never agreed to do it.
“Yeah that's a lie to, I don't know where that [came from]”. The
former SNL star seems to be a tad afraid of sequels. That makes three sequels
he’s passed on this year, adding that he doesn’t plan on doing
a follow-up to his hit “Talladega Nights” either. (Moviehole)

Steve Carell's Evan Almighty Teaser Trailer
Check
out the teaser trailer from Steve's June 2007 blockbuster comedy sequel. The
trailer does a nice job of showing us what the story is about, though strangely
the fact that Evan is a politician seems to be specifically avoided. Nice
bits from The Break-Up's John Michael Higgins and Over the Hedge
and Super-Ex alum Wanda Sykes. Sadly, no Jonah Hill though.
Knocked Up moved to Early June 2007
Our resident box office investigator Rick Duran recently uncovered this tidbit
that might be the best news of the week. The Seth Rogen starrer was previously
set of a mid-August 2007 release but is now slated for a June 1, 2007 opening.
The film also received another fabulous spy review over at AICN. "The entire cast is perfect. Seth Rogen is simply brilliant in this role. Again Paul Rudd out does himself as a comic actor. This guy really needs to respected for his brilliance on screen. He never turns in a performance that isn't top notch funny."

First Look at Ben Stiller in Farrelly's Seven Day Itch
We don't agree (we love Ben) but can't help but smile at the way this was
written. From Defamer:
"No background prop this, the painstakingly hand-stitched cushion plays
a vital role in plot advancement, setting the star off on one of his trademark
meltdown scenes that audiences--perhaps "love" is too strong a word
here, but certainly expect--to see in a Ben Stiller film."

Will Ferrell's Swedish Project?
Mario Bernengo sent in this note:
OK, so this piece http://www.expressen.se/index.jsp?a=726679 was published in one of the larger Swedish newspapers today. (I just publish the link to prove it's real, not on the outside chance that someone here other than me actually knows Swedish.)
I could translate the whole thing because he says some pretty funny stuff in it, but the famous five-word pitch would be "American sent to dark Sweden." He gets sent there to the Swedish offices of his company during the dark winter months when the sun doesn't shine. There's gonna be lots of jokes about light therapy, he says. He also points out that he (the Swedes) finds our information sheets hilarious, like the one for the Stockholm Marathon 2003, in which it says: "If you have not finished the marathon in three hours we will pick you up in a van."
I don't know guys. This sounds like the desperate idea Adam McKay tries to pitch to Will on the spoof commentary track on the Anchorman DVD. What was it? Will is a penguin that is sent to NYC? "Lots of jokes about the weather." I don't remember.
Vince Vaughn Films Documentary in Ireland
Our

in west Belfast and Progressive Unionist Party leader David Ervine in the
east for a documentary on Belfast's murals. (BBC)
Is Jonah Hill Judd Apatow's Latest Prodigy?
Judd Apatow's Apatow Prods. has dipped into its discretionary fund
to buy "The Middle Child," a comedy pitch from actor Jonah Hill,
setting it up at Universal. Hill is attached to star and is penning the script,
based on his original idea. "Child" centers on a young man (Hill)
who finds out that his parents gave up a child for adoption
before he was born. When the son returns, the young man becomes the proverbial
"middle child" and is an outcast in his own family, who look upon
the newcomer as the son they've always wanted.
Apatow took to Hill when he was cast in "The 40-Year-Old Virgin"
in a small scene set in an eBay store. Apatow has since cast Hill in "Knocked
Up," his directorial follow-up to "Virgin," as well as "Superbad,"
a comedy he is producing that is shooting.
"I think of Judd as my mentor, and him and I have very similar tastes," Hill said. "It's a sense of humor very much based in reality, with characters that you see in real life." Said Apatow, "Jonah is the future of North American comedy. My bet has been placed." (Hollywood Reporter)

Frat Pack Fans Rejoice as Luke Wilson Drops Out of Dallas
Remake
We've
been beating this drum for months now, so we're pleased to tell you that Luke
Wilson has dropped out of the Dallas movie. According to the
article in Independent Entertainment News, "Luke Wilson, who was cast
as Bobby Ewing, has a pay-or-play deal that's up in January but is no longer
in the cast."
First, we are so happy Luke is out of this project that we felt was going to be one of the worst movies ever made - and the revolving door of actors hasn't swayed that conviction. Also, we're glad Luke go paid something for his troubles.
Luke Wilson, ex-Dallas star, we salute you!

Todd Phillips Talks Old School Dos
There's a great interview
with Todd Phillips over at Ain't It Cool News.
"We’re
just in the writing stage right now, and, again in the spirit of full disclosure,
we have none of the actors on board until we hand a script in. They know
about it, and I’m hoping they’re open to it, but by no means
are they on board. It’s not like a have Will or Vince or Luke signed
up for this film. Hopefully we’ll hand them a script, which really
won’t be until the end of this year, and then they’ll read it.
Hopefully they’ll like it, and then it’s about schedules. So
it’s a little bit away. Right now, all we have is the title: OLD SCHOOL
DOS."Rachel McAdams as Agent 99 with Steve Carell in Get Smart?
According
to the Toronto Star, the Wedding Crashers costar "has apparently
said yes to playing Agent 99 in the long-gestating movie version of the 1960s
TV spy comedy Get Smart. Perhaps she's a fan of the series, or of Barbara
Feldon, the original Agent 99. Or maybe she's keen to work with the red-hot
Steve Carell, who has signed on for the Maxwell Smart role."
We think McAdams is perfect for the role, as is Carell.

New York Times Covers the Frat Pack
The Times is back to cover the inside
story of the revolving door of managers and agents for the Frat Pack stars.
There's also a great chart showing the management relationships.
"Mr. Carrey was moving on to that sprawling behemoth of Hollywood talent agencies, the Creative Artists Agency. The move, which rumbled through Hollywood like a storm, signaled changing times for a tight network of stars who have dominated Hollywood comedies for several years, including Mr. Carrey, Ben Stiller, Owen Wilson, Will Ferrell, Jack Black, Vince Vaughn, Steve Carell and writer-directors Judd Apatow and Adam McKay."

Podcast #92: Get Ready for Tenacious D in the Pick of Destiny
There's lots of Jack Black and Kyle Gass as we drop a new clip and

connection.

Will's Briefs Make Another Appearance
Will Ferrell thrilled Megan Mullally when she launched her talk show career
yesterday by showing up in just his underwear. Ferrell was Mullally's first
guest on her new show, and he decided to make quite an entrance in a pair
of blue Y-fronts and knee-length sports socks. After presenting Mullally with
a bouquet of flowers and handing a rose to the host's stunned mother, who
was sitting in the audience, Ferrell told the actress, "There's an old
saying: 'When you're nervous you should imagine people in their underwear.'
I just wanted to cut to the chase." Ferrell later donned a tuxedo to
sing a quirky version of "Wind Beneath My Wings" to welcome his
pal to daytime television. (Starpulse.com)

Will Kills Elf 2, Shows Interest in Old School Dos
"In an interview with Moviehole today, Will Ferrell denounced plans for
an "Elf 2" stating that although it was in the works - New Line
had tried to talk him into doing a sequel to the family comedy hit - he rejected
the idea. "Elf 2 got killed," says Ferrell. "I killed Elf 2."
New Line's Toby Emmerich said they would only ever do the sequel – which New Line exec VP of production Kent Alterman was rumoured to be directing – if it were with Will. Since its not, it isn't happening.
As for "Old School 2," that's still a possibility. "Old School 2 is apparently being written," he says." (Comingsoon.net)
Talladega Nights Overseas Blitz
Will Ferrell's NASCAR comedy overtook former champ You, Me and Dupree
for first place at the U.K. box office this week.
Meanwhile, there's a nice interview with Will and costar John C. Reilly from Australia's yourMovies.com.au. Will and John even compare Talladega Nights to The 40 Year-Old Virgin. Check the transcript and video.
Bill Maher's Idiocracy New Rule
"New
Rule: Americans are dumber than anyone realizes. Mike Judge's new movie, "Idiocracy,"
about a future America where everyone is really stupid, has been dumped by
Fox because test audiences didn't get the joke. Because they were too stupid
to understand a movie about stupid people! Just when you think you've hit
the bottom of the stupid barrel, you find out there's another barrel right
underneath it." (Real
Time with Bill Maher, Sept 15, 2006)
Tenacious D Movie Clip and New Song!
There's a clip from the movie and it's outstanding. It's the scene
where Jack and Kyle meet, it's really funny, and the clip is R Rated to boot.

the clip from Tenacious D in the Pick of Destiny.
Meanwhile, head on over to the Official Tenacious D website to hear the incredible new song, the unusually titled "Tenacious D in the Pick of Destiny" (do you see a pattern here, folks?).
Old School 2, er... "Dos" News
Skewed
and Reviewed talked to School for Scoundrels co-writer/director/producer
Todd Phillips about his Old School sequel in development at DreamWorks
Pictures. Phillips said that the title for the film will be Old School
Dos. He is currently working on the script and will show it to the actors
(Luke Wilson, Vince Vaughn and Will Ferrell), who aren't signed yet,
upon completion.
Phillips revealed that the sequel will shed more light on Ferrell's character and why his wife was so concerned that his alter ego, Frank the Tank, never see the light of day again. The 2003 comedy earned $74 million domestically.

What's Next for Will Ferrell?
JoBlo.com
posted this photo of Will Ferrell from the set of Blades of Glory,
expected to arrive in theatres next spring.
Meanwhile, Latino Review has a great preview of Will's November dramedy/cum Oscar Bait Stranger than Fiction. "Now he's actually sort of serious in the Marc Forrester directed Stranger Than Fiction. And he does his semi-serious thing opposite such Oscar-winning big timers as Dustin Hoffman and Emma Thompson. And he holds his own, too. Not bad for the company he's keeping. And he doesn't run nude or in his underwear or he doesn't ask Oprah or Tom Cruise to save him." (LatinoReview)

Idiocracy's Box Office Results
With absolutely no publicity whatsoever what did Fox expect?
"Fox bowed Mike Judge's "Idiocracy" on 130 theaters for a dismal per-screen average of $1,231. The film starring Luke Wilson grossed $160,000 for the weekend." (Hollywood Reporter)
Little Miss Sunshine Holding Great at Box Office
According to Box Office Mojo, the Steve Carell movie "ranked
fourth for the weekend with an estimated $9.7M over four days with $7.6M over
the Friday-to-Sunday portion (up from $7.3 million last weekend).
Sunshine averaged a strong $6,071 from 1,602 theaters over four days pushing
its total to $35.8M and counting. At its current rate, it should eventually
surpass Miami Vice as the top-grossing R-rated film to come out of the summer."

More Idiocracy Reviews
What do critics think of the movie and Luke Wilson's performance?
Two More Reviews Added to Frat Pack Tribute Site

Podcast #90: Idiocracy!
Idiocracy abounds with the first podcast review of the Mike Judge/Luke
Wilson film. We also have clips from Jack Black's hosting gig over at the

Idiocracy Opens in Limited Release Today!
If
you're lucky enough to live in Austin, Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles, Atlanta,
Chicago, and Toronto you can see Mike Judge's highly anticipated follow-up
to Office Space, the maligned Idiocracy. Though it's only
on 125 screens, the fact that it's actually here is something we thought we
might never see!
There's a great review over at Ain't it Cool News. The reviewer says "And now that I've seen it, I know for a fact that FOX is fucking retarded. They made the same mistake with OFFICE SPACE eight years ago, and they didn't learn a thing. Mike Judge deserves better, because he's put together another brilliant cult comedy that will turn audiences hoarse with laughter, while weaving in dangerously clever satire that's spookily on target. Luke Wilson gives arguably the best comedic performance of his career."
If you've seen Idiocracy, drop us a line or call our Frat Pack Hotline, 206-666-FRAT.
Jack Black and Kyle Gass Rock MTV Video Music Awards
Well, we'll be honest with you that we were a tad underwhelmed by Jack Black's
hosting gig over at the Video
Music Awards. Besides some nice interplay with Justin Timberlake the rest
was not particularly funny, nor interesting. And, if I hear "thunder" one
more time... That said, there was a nicely scripted moment with Kyle quitting
Tenacious D to join the Black Eyed Peas, and the eventual reuinion. The band
played a too-short rendition of "Friendship Song." You can check out clips
on MTV.com (now compatible with Mac browsers!).

Wedding Crashers Comes to TV - Sort Of
So, how's this for a "wonderful" idea? Wedding Crashers
without Vince or Owen (or Will)? Heresey!
New Line is bringing "Wedding Crashers" to television, walking down the aisle with "Punk'd" producer Katalyst Films to create a hidden-camera reality take on the comedy feature. NBC has hitched itself to the concept, ordering six hourlong episodes for a possible 2007 midseason bow. Jon Kroll ("Amish in the City") will exec produce for New Line Television, with Ashton Kutcher, Jason Goldberg and Karey Burke exec producing for Katalyst.
Kroll, exec VP of New Line Television, said the studio began thinking about a TV take on "Crashers" even before the movie's release. After figuring out some details about how to transform the feature into a TV show, New Line quickly sought out Katalyst. "We asked Katalyst if they could use their evil 'Punk'd' powers for good," Kroll told Daily Variety. "We came to them with some structural elements and then they went crazy on how the (show) would work."
Idea of "Crashers" is not to embarrass the bride and groom but rather unleash a series of comic stunts and pranks that will make the event memorable for them and their guests. "If you watch the first 20 minutes of the movie, you'll understand the tone of the show," Burke said. "It takes a rite of passage that everyone's familiar with and puts a lot of twists on it."
Producers wouldn't discuss specifics of just how the show would work, though they said there will be a "Punk'd"-like troupe of improv actors who will play different characters who crash various weddings. Goldberg said he sees the show "as an 8 p.m. family comedy," with just a bit of edge -- more like Katalyst's CW skein "Beauty and the Geek" than "Punk'd." (Variety)

Final Poster for Todd Phillips' School for Scoundrels

The Office Wins Emmy; Steve Carell Loses
Well, I guess you can't win them all. Steve Carell was upset by Monk's
Tony Shaloub at the Emmy's last night. However, his show The Office
was awarded the Best Comedy Emmy. Meanwhile, Old School's Jeremy
Piven won the Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy for his fearless role in Entourage.

The show was not without it's controversy, though. The Office's Mindy Kaling was the unintended victim on a nipple slip after the show's win.
Also of note: Knocked Up's Katherine Heigl looking rather fetching.

Is Steve Ready for Date with Emmy?
A reminder that Steve Carell is nominated and favored to win for Best Actor
in a Comedy series on tonight's Emmy Awards. We're rooting for Steve not just
because
we
think he deserves it, but because we're looking forward to another one of
his clever acceptance speeches!
Meanwhile, Steve's indie comedy Little Miss Sunshine continued it's strong run at the box office. According to Box Office Mojo, the film "more than doubled its theater count and grossed an estimated $7.5M from 1,430 sites. The R-rated pic averaged a solid $5,245 and boosted its cume to $23M. Sunshine has steadily grown over the past month into a pop culture phenomenon becoming the "it" movie of the moment and looks certain to charm its way past the $50M mark domestically in the weeks ahead." Will Ferrell continued a strong run with Talladega Nights finishing again in second place, grossing another $8 million. Ricky Bobby's total now stands at about $128, and might have enough gas to fly past $150 million but the end of it's run.
Idiocracy Coming to More Cities on September 1st
According
to FilmJerk.com, here are the details: Opening Week Release Pattern: Opens
at the Arclight Cinemas in Hollywood, the Criterion 6 in Santa Monica and
in Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Detroit, Los Angeles, New York City,
Philadelphia, San Francisco and Washington DC on September 1
MPAA Rating: R for language and sex-related humor
Running Time: 84 minutes
Idiocracy to see Limited Release on September 1st
According
to the Austin Chronicle the movie has not been shelved.
The good news is that Austin fans will finally get to see Mike Judge's futuristic comedy, Idiocracy, on the big screen. The bad news is that people in most other areas of the country likely won't. Idiocracy opens in limited – and very quiet, judging by the lack of a trailer and short notice – release on Sept. 1 in Austin, Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles, Atlanta, Chicago, and Toronto, a spokesperson for 20th Century Fox said. Whether the long-delayed, Austin-shot film will expand to other markets is uncertain. The announcement comes on the heels of a report on the MTV Web site that the film's release was "postponed indefinitely" with rumors of the dreaded limited release. Wrong on the first; correct on the second. Which leads to the obligatory questions: Is it that bad? Will film execs ever figure out Judge's humor? Is the film's star, Luke Wilson, cursed? (His Austin-shot directing debut, The Wendell Baker Story, should be filed under whereabouts unknown.) Lest we forget, Judge's Office Space was a dud at the box office but remains gold on DVD/video. The better news hereabouts is that Judge appears to be preparing for his next live-action feature, Meat in the Freezer.
The Break-Up DVD Details
The DVD will be released on October 17th. Here are some of the features
for the comedic drama we gave four stars.

Podcast #89: I Can't Tell You Why
Will Ferrell's rendition of The Eagles' "I Can't Tell You Why" is

More Evan Almighty Spy Photos
Thanks to our tipster, Clearwater Kris, we have three more spy photos from

Fischer's Provocative Pose
We're
big fans of Jenna Fischer on The Office, of course, and are looking forward
to her role in Will Ferrell's Blades of Glory. Now she's featured
in the August issue of Jane

Fischer is quoted "My New Year's resolution last year was called Hot
and Sexy '05. The goal was to feel comfortable with my body no matter what
the size. And it actually happened. I stopped obsessing about what I ate,
fluctuations in my weight and whether I was working out or not. I was owning
that this was what I was born with. There was a time when I worked out so
much that I had hard, six-pack abs. Well, maybe two-pack - just a great bikini
body. But I wasn't happy. So I stopped making that a big focus on my life."

Owen Wilson Dating Dupree Costar Kate Hudson
On
August 14, Kate Hudson announced that she was separating from Chris Robinson,
her husband of five and a half years. And though the actress, 27, and the
Black Crowes singer (who have a son, Ryder, 2), were rumored to have been
on the outs all summer – she never visited him during his current U.S.
tour – multiple sources
confirm to Us that Hudson’s burgeoning relationship with actor Owen
Wilson, 37, was the main catalyst for the split.
A rep for Hudson had no comment. A lawyer for Wilson tells Us in a statement,
“[Anything] that suggests that the separation of Ms. Hudson was caused
by Mr. Wilson…is absolutely false.”
(Do you like the non-denial denial? Owen didn't cause the separation,
but there's no denying the current relationship. - Ed)
Meanwhile, sources tell Us that Hudson has spent several nights at her You,
Me and Dupree costar’s Santa Monica, California, pad in the last few
weeks. “This is not a fling,” says a source close to the couple.
“Kate is crazy about him. Owen gives her so much attention, and she
loves it. [That’s why] she wants her marriage to be over.”
Three days before the split, a Wilson source told Us, “Owen is not-so-secretly
hoping she will leave Chris so they wouldn’t have to hide. He is falling
for her.”
How did Kate and Owen’s love unfold? Has Robinson been faithful to his
wife? What’s in store for the estranged marriage and little Ryder? For
more details on the marital collapse and what the future holds for Kate’s
budding romance, check out the current
issue of Us Weekly, on newsstands this week.

Libre star Jack Black will host the 2006 MTV Video Music Awards, MTV announced
Thursday. "Prepare yourself for a rip-snortin' humdinger," Black,
34, said in a statement, adding, "I am Jables, hear me roar." (Jables
is Black's nickname when he performs with his two-man band, Tenacious D.)
MTV president Christina Norman called Black the "perfect mix of comedy,

Frat Pack Tribute's Review of Luke Wilson in My Super-Ex Girlfriend
From the better late than never department, we present our review
of My Super-Ex Girlfriend. Fans of Luke Wilson should definitely
check out this movie that contains one of the best lines in recent movie history.
Luke Wilson Curse Continues; Idiocracy Shelved. Again.
From
MTV: "Bad news for "Office Space" fans: Less than a month before
its most recent release date, Mike Judge's long-awaited follow-up "Idiocracy"
has been postponed indefinitely. Starring Luke Wilson, Justin Long and "Office
Space" scene-stealer Stephen Root, the flick tells the story of a common
man who awakes a thousand years in the future to discover that he's the most
intelligent person alive. Director/writer Judge is currently without a release
date for the film, and rumors of a limited theatrical run are rampant."
Will Ferrell Lines Up His Next Projects
Production Weekly reports that Talladega Nights: The Ballad of
Ricky Bobby star Will Ferrell is in talks to reunite with Old School
screenwriter Scot Armstrong for Semi-Pro.
The comedy, set in the world of 1970's basketball, is eyeing a February production
start in Minneapolis. Armstrong, who also did a rewrite on Elf, is
penning sequels to Old School and Elf, both for Ferrell
to topline.
Ferrell just signed with Sony to reteam with his Talladega Nights co-star John C.Reilly and director Adam McKay for the comedy Step Brothers, about two coddled guys who live with their respective single parents. Their folks fall in love and marry, making the guys stepbrothers. Step Brothers is the third film in the Ferrell/McKay "Mediocre American Man" trilogy. (Comingsoon.net)
Meanwhile, Will's next film Stranger Than Fiction will have it's world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival (September 6-17). Let the Oscar Buzz continue!
Ben Stiller Pimped in School for Scoundrels Trailer
We'd heard about Ben's cameo in the upcoming Jon Heder film directed by Todd
Phillips (Old School, Starsky & Hutch). But we had no idea he'd
be pimped so hard in the movie's
trailer. Makes Owen Wilson's spoiled cameo in Night at the Museum
look tame by comparison.
In SCHOOL FOR SCOUNDRELS, Jon Heder plays Roger, a beleaguered New York City meter maid who is plagued by anxiety and low self-esteem. In order to overcome his feelings of inadequacy, Roger enrolls in a top-secret confidence-building class taught by the suavely underhanded Dr. P (Billy Bob Thornton). Aided by his assistant, Lesher (Michael Clarke Duncan), Dr. P uses unorthodox, often dangerous methods, but he guarantees results: Employ his techniques and you will unleash your inner lion.
Surrounded by a band of misfit classmates – Walsh (Matt Walsh), who’s dying to move out of mother’s basement; Diego (Horatio Sanz), a punching bag for his hen-pecker of a wife; and Eli (Todd Louiso), a shy guy just looking for female companionship – Roger’s confidence grows and he makes his way to the head of the class, even finding the courage to ask out his longtime crush, Amanda (Jacinda Barrett). But Roger quickly discovers that star students have a way of catapulting Dr. P’s competitive side into high gear. Soon enough, the teacher sets out to infiltrate and destroy Roger’s personal and professional life. Nothing is off limits for Dr. P, not even the object of Roger’s affection. In order to show Amanda Dr. P’s true colors, Roger must rally his new friends and find a way to beat the master at his own game.

Talladega Nights Finishes at Pole Position!
"If
You Ain't First, You're Last!" held true for Will Ferrell and the creators
of Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby. The film grossed
an estimated $47M over the weekend, easily outdistancing other films this
weekend. According to Box Office Mojo, studio research indicated that 53%
of the audience was male and that 52% was under 25. Aside from being Ferrell's
biggest opening weekend ever, the film also generated the third best bow ever
in the month of August.

Seth Rogen Details Owen and Steve's Knocked Up Cameos
According to Seth Rogen, Katherine Heigl's character — an entertainment
reporter whose ambitions come to a screeching halt when Rogen's slacker character
gets her pregnant. "Because she works at E!, we have a lot of celebrities
who were nice enough to come in and play themselves," Rogen revealed,
adding that they cornered the unknowing celebs, including Owen Wilson,
Steve Carell, Eva Mendes and Orlando Bloom. "We just planted
ourselves on the red carpets, and when people came up, we said, 'Will you
shoot a two-minute scene for our movie, wherein you make an inappropriate
comment about her pregnant belly?' And most people were nice enough to do
it." (MTV.com)

Podcast #86: Mixed Blessings for the Frat Pack
The forces of nature are balanced as we discuss many positive and
negative stories about the Frat Pack. There's great news about some upcoming
Frat Pack cameos, Steve Carell's new movie, and lots of excitement for Will
Ferrell in Talladega Nights. But there's also negative from Entertainment
Weekly, Steely Dan, and the box office for Luke Wilson. Finally, we have some
exclusive photos from the set of Talladega
Nights and a lively discussion of Will Ferrell's Oscar buzzworthy Stranger
Than Fiction.
Thanks to Spencer Gliko, Jack Wilson, Stacey, Adam Hay, Jenny Spaulding and especially Cybill Besse for contributions this episode.

Steve Carell and Owen Wilson Film Cameos for Knocked Up
According to an article
from CinemaBlend.com, Steve Carell and Owen Wilson have filmed cameos
as themselves for Judd Apatow's Knocked Up, currently shooting. The
two Frat Pack stars will appear as themselves, interviewed by Katherine Heigl's
entertainment reporter character.
Frat Pack fans will recall that although Apatow's previous film, The 40 Year-Old Virgin, did not contain any true "Frat Pack" cameos, both Jack Black and Luke Wilson were referenced in the film. Knocked Up stars Virgin and Dupree scene-stealer Seth Rogen.

Entertainment
Weekly Still Bitter about Losing Frat Pack Label War: Slams Fratters
Unnecessarily
Maybe the guys over at EW are upset by the recent slew of Frat Pack articles
and are still smarting that their label for the guys, The Slacker Pack, never
stuck.
So, they published this "humorous" editorial. Now we don't mind a little editorial opinion thrown at our boys, but where's the slam on Adam Sandler or the Wayans' Brothers? They're arguably less mature than the Frat Pack are, especially considering the use of Vince's photo from the relationship drama The Break-Up.
Thanks to Librarian from The Wilsons message board for scanning this.
Owen Wilson Draws Ire from Dupree "Creators" Steely Dan
The guys who comprise Steely Dan, Walter Becker and Donald Fagen, apparently
think Owen Wilson ripped off one of their songs' character for his new movie,
You, Me and Dupree. They’ve posted
a letter on their Web site to actor Luke Wilson, brother of “Dupree”
star Owen Wilson, in which they lay out their claim and ask for an apology.
“Cousin Dupree” appeared on the group’s 2001 Grammy award-winning
comeback album, “Two Against Nature.” The lyrics are about a young
ne’er do well musician who returns home to find his even younger female
cousin all grown up. The narrator lusts after her in a very unfamilial way.
The song features a great line about “the dreary architecture of my
soul.”
In a statement released Friday, Owen Wilson denies any connection between his new movie and the '70s supergroup Steely Dan. The band posted a letter on its Web site last week claiming that Wilson's character was based on its Grammy-winning song, "Cousin Dupree," about a couch-hopping houseguest. The 37-year-old actor says he has never heard the song. "I don't even know who this gentleman, Mr. Steely Dan, is," he says. "I hope this helps to clear things up and I can get back to concentrating on my new movie, `HEY 19."'

Crowded Box Office House Unwelcome for Dupree
You, Me and Dupree finished in third place at the box office this
weekend, with an estimated three day gross of $21.3 million. Unlike Wedding
Crashers last summer, Dupree felt competition from the Wayan's Brothers
Little Man ($21.7 million) and the humor-filled Pirates of the
Caribbean. A final gross north of $70 million is unlikely. While this
is relatively bad news for Owen Wilson, Frat Pack fans might take solace that
this might encourage him to revisit his Frat Pack pals Vince Vaughn or Ben
Stiller for another "Buddy Comedy."

Will Ferrell on the Cover of GQ!
There's an incredible interview with Will Ferrell in the latest issue of GQ.

Ferrell Has a Bone to Pick for yourself. Cool photos too.
Luke Wilson's Other July Film - Mini's First
Time
We're eagerly anticipating Luke in My Super-Ex Girlfriend. To tide
you over, two new clips have surfaced. One
features Luke, the second
features Rainn Wilson.
Meanwhile, a trailer has surfaced for Mini's First Time, an erotic black comedy starring Alec Baldwin and Niki Reed. Luke appears as a detective and has a nice line in the trailer. Be sure to check the very cool official movie site as well. The movie has a plot that's deliciously "wrong" and sounds great! We happen to be big fans of Baldwin and are eagerly looking forward to this movie when it opens on July 14.
