Review of You Kill Me with Luke Wilson
This unusual romantic comedy with a criminal edge has been doing good business in limited release. Now, Jenny Spaulding has a review (
) for us.
Justin Long: Action Hero?
Moving away from the geeky high school computer nerd he played in Dodgeball and other films, Justin Long is costarring in Live Free or Die Hard as a geeky twenty-something computer nerd. The film opens everywhere today.
While the role is not a stretch for the man sometimes known as "Mac" it's certainly nice to see Long show a different kind of range in this anticipated action picture. We already know from Idiocracy that he can play frightened and screaming, which should be an assett as well. Bruce Willis is one of our favorites, too.
Speaking of Die Hard, we'd be remiss in reminding you of one of the best bits from the original The Ben Stiller Show way back in 1992. Die Hard 12: Die Hungry is an outstanding bit of parody featuring all of the The Ben Stiller Show regulars, Bob Odenkirk, Andy Dick, and Janeane Garofalo.
Also featured as the villain of "Diet Harder" is Taylor Negron of Fast Times at Ridgemont High and Punchline fame, who at the time was just coming off playing the crazed villain in another Bruce Willis classic, The Last Boy Scout.

Ben Stiller at License to Wed Premiere
I don't even want to think about what Ben's babysitting bill looks like, since it seems he appears at every Hollywood movie premiere starring one of his friends.
This time? License to Wed starring Night at the Museum's Robin Williams, along with John Krasinski and Mandy Moore. Christine Taylor is also in the movie, in a supporting role. The premiere was last night and the movie opens on July 3rd.

Pearl McKay Makes EW's Must List; Retires
Entertainment Weekly's EW 100 Hot List was announced and FunnyorDie.com made the list (see illustration). The star of the new comedy video network is The Landlord's Pearl McKay of course.

Now we learn that Pearl is Reuniting with Will Ferrell for the new video “Good Cop, Baby Cop,” Premiering today on www.funnyordie.com. Shockingly, the video marks ‘Pearl’s Farewell Performance’ as 2 year-old announces early retirement.
“My ventures as an actor on the internet have been rewarding and spiritually fulfilling, but now I must look to broader challenges as I approach my 26th month,” says Pearl. “I shall always reflect upon these days with much fondness, and also, I have no idea what I just said, and I want banana-nana and the upside down show.”
Pearl McKay's contributions to show business will not be forgotten soon!

Chest Waxing is Favorite Steve Carell Moment Say Fans
The results are in from The Frat Pack Tribute's Favorite Steve Carell Moments Contest. The fans voted and the chest waxing scene from The 40 Year-Old Virgin was the overwhelming favorite. Coming in second place were various scenes of Brick Tamland from Anchorman, including "I Love Lamp." Third place was a tie between Steve's performance in Bruce Almighty and the recent sequel, Evan Almighty.

The winners of the contest were Brent Spirnak from San Diego, CA and Sarah Pesto from Gainseville, FL. Sarah was part of the chest wax voting block while Brent's favorite Carell moment was his Daily Show report on responsible drinking where he ended up getting drunk. The winners get one of two Evan Almighty Prize Packs, courtesy the fine folks at Universal Studios.
Thanks to all who participated in the contest.
When Opening at Number One with $32 million is Considered a Failure
Commentary by Kevin Crossman
Evan Almighy opened at number one at the box office this weekend, grossing $32 million according to studio estimates. This is the biggest opening for Steve Carell and is higher than anything from the Wilson Brothers or Jack Black. It's larger than Universal's last summer comedy, Knocked Up, which opened at just over $30 million.
So, why is it considered a box office failure?
I had a chance to see Evan this weekend. I went in with high expectations, having read Brandon Angelilli's five star Frat Pack Tribute review (others on our forums echoed the five star rating).
And my take? Three stars. About the same as Kicking and Screaming - meaning that the film would have been funnier if they weren't trying to wrap the family values around the comedy (something Night at the Museum was noticably restrained about...).
Steve Carell is outstanding, showing previously unseen strengths as a physical comedian. Also good are Wanda Sykes, Jonah Hill, and Ed Helms. Lauren Graham looks nice with the tight jeans she wears throughout the film but does not bring much emotional weight to her role (unlike her counterpart Jennifer Aniston, in the first Almighty film). And the kids and villain (John Goodman) are generic as they come. There are a few good special effects, and a few bad ones. A lot of the pop culture references (Ark Building for Dummies, a 40 Year-Old Virgin reference) were flat.

Trailer for Margot at the Wedding with Jack Black
After Bewitched, the last actress I want to see in a movie is Nicole Kidman, but this dramedy from Noah Baumbach (The Squid and the Whale) does look interesting. In the film, Malcom (Black) is set to marry Pauline (Jennifer Jason Lee). Then, Pauline's sister Margot (Kidman) arrives and tries to stop the wedding. Hilarity ensues.
The film opens in limted release on October 19. View the Trailer.
Trailer for Into the Wild with Vince Vaughn
I guess this is our lucky day because we also have a trailer for Vince Vaughn's fall drama, Into the Wild. Directed by Sean Penn and starring Emile Hirsch Marcia Gay Harden, William Hurt, and Catherine Keener.
Based on Penn's adaptation of Jon Krakauer's bestseller, the film centers on Christopher McCandless (Hirsch), who graduated from college in 1992, abandoned his possessions and hitchhiked to Alaska to live in the wilderness and return to nature. He died four months later in an abandoned bus at a remote campsite.
We're very interested in this movie, especially since a big turn here and great box office for Fred Claus would likely cement Vaughn for Frat Pack Man of the Year. However, we must say we're disappointed that Vince seems, well, like Vince in the clips. Where's the stretch in acting? Let's hope all the "Vince" moments are in the trailer and the movie will bring a darker, more serious role for Mr. Vaughn. View the Trailer.

The First Eight Minutes of Luke Wilson's Smart Mob Movie, You Kill Me
Luke isn' in this clip, but Ben Kingsley does in this interesting looking dark comedy from John Dahl (Rounders, The Last Seduction). Kingsley's character ends up in A.A. and his sponsor is played by Luke Wilson. Tea Leoni is the love interest in this movie that opens in limited release this weekend. Also check the official website, YouKillMethefilm.com.
Eight Minute Evan Almighty Clip
Who needs trailers when you have an HD-quality clip that runs eight minutes long? This clip features some great physical comedy from Steve Carell, a great line by costar Lauren Graham, as well as appearances by Molly Shannon, Wanda Sykes, and John Michael Higgins. However, we can't be helped but be a bit distracted by fakest looking beard this side of G.I. Joe.
Nonetheless, check out Evan Almighty: Build a Boat?

Jack Black, Todd Phillips teaming up for Man-Witch
Old School director Todd Phillips is working with Jack Black to develop a film called Man-Witch for Warner Brothers. In the comedy, Black will play a schoolteacher who suddenly discovers he has witchlike abilities. Taken in by a coven, he is persuaded to attend a school for witches, only to discover that his classmates are all girls.
Jay Reiss, currently starring on Broadway in "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee," is penning the script based on a pitch by Josh Stolberg and Bob Florsheim. Original Film's Neal Moritz and Phillips are producing; Scott Budnick exec produces for the Todd Phillips Co. and Ori Marmur for Original Film. (Variety)
New Dark(?) Comedy Project for Ben Stiller?
DreamWorks and Red Hour are teaming on the comedy In Deep as a potential starring vehicle for Ben Stiller, says The Hollywood Reporter. Mark Romanek (One Hour Photo) is attached to direct the project, which is based on an original screenplay by George Beckerman. Red Hour's Stiller and Stuart Cornfeld are producing In Deep, and Robert Weide and Romanek are executive producing.
Steve Conrad (The Pursuit of Happyness) has been hired to do a Page One rewrite/reconceive of Beckerman's screenplay, which chronicles the nightmarish tale of a man who fights a parking ticket and becomes increasingly enmeshed in criminal allegations.
Evan Almighty Review (
)
Senior Editor Brandon Angelilli caught Evan Almighty and brings his parental and comedic tastes to bear with our review of the movie.
Evan Almighty is a carefully crafted PG family movie, perhaps being the kind of film church groups take their kids to after Sunday school but not for the same reason as The Passion of the Christ or The Chronicles of Narnia. It has nothing to do with Bruce, and I say it’s better off this way. Read the complete review of Evan Almighty

Owen Officially Confirmed for Thunder; Old News to Frat Pack Fans
Variety is reporting that Owen Wilson and Nick Nolte are on board for Ben Stiller's Tropic Thunder.
No details of either actor's role in the movie, but the article does also include additional casting details. Steve Coogan is confirmed for the movie, along with Matt Levin (Archie in Zoolander, also Dodgeball, Blades of Glory), Brandon Jackson (Envy) and Andrea De Oliveira (who plays a pilates instructor in the movie).
The casting of regular Stiller collaborator Wilson is no surpise to regular readers of the Frat Pack Tribute website, since we were the first news outlet to break this story a month ago, on May 18th. Nonetheless, this development is significant in that it may mean that Wilson's role is larger than the cameo we assumed it was when we picked up on costar Jay Baruchel's comment at the Knocked Up press juket.
The addition of Levin to the cast adds another role to his resume in Ben Stiller productions.

Stiller, Vaughn, Aniston on Forbes Celebrity Power List. Where's Ferrell?
Tinseltown's triumphs are reflected in this year's Celebrity 100, Forbes' annual list of the world's most powerful--and best-paid--celebrities. To generate the list, Forbes analyzes celebrity earnings, plus media metrics like Google hits, press mentions as compiled by Lexis/Nexis, TV/radio mentions from Factiva and the number of times an A-lister appears on the cover of 32 major consumer magazines.

Coming off two back-to-back $100 million grossers, a Golden Globe nomination, Viral Video Internet buzz, GQ's Man of the Year, and the cover subject of Premiere Magazine's last issue, you'd think Will Ferrell would make the Top 100, but he's not there. Apparently more powerful and successful are Hayden Panetteire (#98), Paula Deen (#99), and Bobby Flay (#100). Bobby Flay?
Time Magazine Highights Comedy Economic Trends
Focusing on the box office profitability of movies like Knocked Up, Time has a nice article ("Comedians' Little Secret") discussing the realities of how comedy movies are made today. Additionally, there is some nice background highlighting the evolution of comedic personas over the years.
Seth Rogen and Steve Carell are two examples of underknown talents with ordinary looks who were given lead roles in movies and instantly proved their pull as comedy stars; they could make the audience fall in laugh with them.
Moguls love to hit the home run of a Pirates or a Lord of the Rings, but they live on the bloop doubles of Talladega Nights and Meet the Fockers. A top comedy star may earn the same as an action star, $20 million to $25 million a picture, but that could be nearly half of a comedy film's budget; everything else (script and director, supporting cast, production cost) is cut-rate. "You can make three comedies for every action movie," says an industry power broker.
The personas of most of today's funny guys could be said to flow from Steve Martin. As a stand-up comic in the '70s, he played the idiot with an utterly unwarranted belief in his coolness, while in his first hit movie, The Jerk, he played ... a jerk. The first type has bloomed in the strutting film personalities of Ferrell, Vaughn, Jack Black, Owen Wilson and many others; the second in Sandler, who teams this summer with another lout, TV's Kevin James, in I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry. Lower on this fast-food chain are Rob Schneider and Larry the Cable Guy.
The only star who simmers with comic angst is Stiller. He's the put-upon loser, a jocular Job, in films like There's Something About Mary and Night at the Museum, when he's not taking roles as the pompous, uptight bad guy (in, say, Dodgeball) or the preening oaf, as in the well-nigh-immortal Zoolander. The moneymen love Stiller too, because he's the rare comic star with international box-office clout.
Like major league teams with their farm system, comedies offer a chance for young talent to move up. Vaughn provided comedy relief for nearly a decade before his breakthrough with Wilson in Wedding Crashers. Rogen was one of Carell's buddies in The 40 Year Old Virgin; in Knocked Up, he had his own posse, and one of that group, Jonah Hill, will star this fall in the Rogen-written Superbad with Michael Cera, who's the male lead in the just wrapped Juno. John C. Reilly, Ferrell's foil in Talladega Nights and the forthcoming Step Brothers, gets his shot at stardom in the Apatow-produced Walk Hard.
Jay and Seth vs. The Apocalypse?
Holy shit, what is this?
Apparently there's a short film called "Jay & Seth vs The Apocalypse."
Perhaps this is one of those DVD Extras they filmed at the end of Knocked Up's shooting schedule, or maybe it's really a forthcoming film. Whatever it is, it looks absolutely hilarious

Knocked Up: An Alternate View
by Josh Watts (contains mild spoilers)
I hate being this guy. The one who comes in to everyone tossing out a 5-star rating without bringing one of his own. But I'm not gonna lie; Knocked Up was horribly disappointing.
I took a good buddy of mine, who was also excited about the movie but not as much as I was, expecting it to be great. But I was really disappointed from the get-go. For one thing, Ben's clique was far too much of an extreme. The idea that every single one of them was unemployed (but still able to rent a decent place) was enough of a stretch by itself, and then the porno website idea was just stupid, and in no way believable. I seriously doubt that anyone would be stupid enough to tell a girl that that was what they did for a living anyway, especially if said website was just an "under construction" page.
Also, almost every joke that I would have laughed at was already featured in a trailer. It wasn't like I was the only one in the theater feeling this way, either. The theater was decently packed for a mid-week screening, but there were maybe three group laughs throughout the whole film. One or two couples left before it was over.
My friend also found it disappointing, and we both agreed it was at least a half-hour too long. The scene with the mushrooms was another low point. It seemed contrived, stilted and forced, something it seemed they did just to start a pretty generic conversation between Rogen and Rudd. (Though I must admit, the five chairs thing was pretty funny.) The parts of the story involving the relationship between Debbie and Pete were actually rather interesting. I found them much more intriguing than Alison and Ben.
I also thought I was going to shoot myself in the face if anyone in that movie said "Spider-Man 3" one more time. We get it, Knocked Up, you take place right now. The current-movie shout-outs don't make you hip. In the end, it was a decent movie, but very disappointing as a comedy. ![]()

Will Ferrell Plays Golf for Charity; Auction for Role in Upcoming Movie
Will Ferrell gave Golf.com exclusive access as he joined his frat buddies (no, not those Frat buddies) for a round of golf to promote a tournament benefiting his pal's cancer charity.
The site has several hilarious videos of Will explaining his philosophies of golf. More importantly, Will is promoting an upcoming event to raise money for charity.
15th annual Cancer for College golf tournament, Sept. 28, at Temecula Creek Inn Golf Course, in Temecula, California. All proceeds go to Will's favorite charity, Cancer for College, which helps cancer survivors pay for higher education.
This year's event will include an auction, in which one lucky attendee—maybe you—will win a slot as an extra in an upcoming Will Ferrell movie. For more information, or to donate to the charity, go to cancerforcollege.org, or call 760-510-9571.

Kauai Readies for Tropic Thunder
From Tim Ryan's Reel Hawaii:
Ben Stiller wanted 90 days worth of time-lapse still photography of the Vietnamese village being built in the bamboo jungle west of Lihue, Kauai for his film Tropic Thunder and that’s what he’s getting thanks to Bill Paris and his Crew Hawaii production house, Kauai sources said. Paris and company this week set up two Pentax digital 35mm SLR cameras in waterproof housings atop 25-foot poles and inside small roofed structures for additional rain protection. The cameras, which are powered by solar panels, use four gigabyte cards, shoot one frame every six minutes for 12 hours or 120 images a day. The edited images will be used in behind-the-scenes footage for the DreamsWorks/Paramount Tropic Thunder HD DVD Tropic Thunder begins filming July 16…

Steve Carell Bruce Almighty Outtakes

Justin Long and Jason Schwartzman Complete Fab Four in Walk Hard
According to a Collider.com Interview, Justin Long confirms that he'll play George Harrison in the John C. Reilly musical spoof Walk Hard. He also indicates Jason Schwartzman will be Ringo Starr, completing the Beatles cast alongside Paul Rudd (Lennon) and Jack Black (McCartney). I must say these two are quite well-cast, especially Schwartzman who is quite the "ringer" for Starr. Long indicates the scene may be cut from the final version of the film, but I can't "imagine" how they'd leave these four on the cutting room floor. Sounds like a crowd-pleaser to us!

This is really incredible and only cements Long's Frat Pack Pledge status. Schwartzman has a number of Frat Pack connections as well, working previously with Ben Stiller (The Marc Pease Experience), Will Ferrell (Bewitched) and the Owen Wilson (Rushmore, The Darjeeling Limited).

The Year One Now with Jack Black as Star, Replacing Owen Wilson!
The caveman comedy from writer/director Harold Ramis and Producer Judd Apatow has a new star. Originally conceived as a star-vehicle for Owen Wilson (who will Exec. Produce), the film will now star Jack Black according to Variety. Michael Cera (Superbad) is also starring in the movie.
We'd be shocked not to see an Owen cameo, but really - does anyone think Owen would be a better caveman than Jack Black?

Knocked Up is a hit!
The film made over $29 million in North American theatres, according to box office estimates (BoxOfficeGuru.com), good for second place to Pirates of the Caribbean. However, playing in only 2871 theaters (compared to over 4000 for Pirates and Shrek), Knocked Up had the highest average per theatre in the top ten. The film only cost $30 million to make, so the execs at Universal must be pleased with the profitability of the Seth Rogen comedy.

We'd prefer to see a label for Apatow's entire "pack" including Rogen, Rudd, Mann, and Carell. And include Ben Stiller, too, since Apatow said "People connect the dots and see all the people I've worked with, but really, it all comes from Stiller." (AP). One of our editors, Drew Hunt, suggested Apatow Association and that sounds a lot better to me.

Paul Rudd Confirms Walk Hard Cameo with Jack Black!
Here's a bombshell for you, courtesy Paul Rudd in the June 1st issue of Entertainment Weekly. In the article, Rudd mentions that he has filmed a cameo for the John C. Reilly starrer Walk Hard, written and produced by Judd Apatow. In the semi-parody of movies like Ray and Walk the Line, Reilly's character, Dewey Cow, meets a series of real-life musical legends. Jack White of the White Stripes has already been tapped to play Elvis Presley.
And now, Rudd confirms his own cameo as John Lennon.
"I don't think you can feel much more pressure than that" he says. "Even though it is ridiculous. I get into a fight with Paul McCartney (played by) Jack Black. So it's not like we're going for authenticity."

Another Wilson Brothers "Times Talk" Report
by Sharon Gruber
I hate writing reviews, I'm glad that I re-thought journalism as a career. Maybe that's why I'm going into photography, so if this review doesn't do justice, I hope some of my photos do. Let's just say that this is more of my experience rather than a review.
I arrived at Cuny Graduate Center at about 5:20pm. I found the line for the Wilson brothers and waitied for about 20 minutes until they seated us. Seats were first come first serve, except for one row which was reserved, I'm guessing for journalists. I was close to the front of the line so I sat in the second row all the way to the right of the stage. This row was longer than the first so I had an open area right in front of me where I could have ran from my seat to the stage in an attempt to force security to get me off of Luke. Ok, well I'm not that obsessed, but it was a nice thought.
After waiting about 15 minutes in our seats, they introduced the woman who interviewed Luke and Andrew, as well as Luke and Andrew themselves. Everyone then began to clap and cheer. They said that Owen couldn't make it, I don't recall them saying that he was sick, either I missed it or Jennifer Spaulding just guessed that was the situatuion. They started off with the trailer for The Wendell Baker Story. The lights dimmed, and Luke and Andrew watched, "as if it were the first time seeing it", as the woman who interviewed them said. Luke of course joked back with a funny comment which I had forgotten. Maybe Mario has a better memory than me and he can fill in the rest when he writes up his review.
They talked about the Frat Pack, and explained what the Frat Pack was to the audience members who weren't in the know. They did leave out Vince Vaughn when they named them all. They named every one of them except Vince, I was insulted! Kidding, but seriously, they left him out.
Most of the interview they asked questions that had been asked to them many times before. Nothing really new. They talked a bit about their childhood, and how Luke's father used to take him to the bar and take him and his brothers to see R-rated movies. The interviewer said that it was nice that their father wanted to spend quality time with them and teach them, which Luke replied back about how his father just wanted to see a movie, or go get a drink. Luke used to go to the bar with him and sit on the bar stool, or play the arcade games in the bar while his father had some drinks.
Luke described his experience working on a film with Bob Dylan called Masked and Anonymous.
He said that he didn't want to ask Bob about his music, because he must have gotten that all the time. He said that Bob would come in to work and ask hi
m if he saw the movie Thinner, (which Luke then did his best Bob Dylan impression while quoting what Bob had said to him). He said, "did you see that movie, Thinner? I was watching it last night..." The audience liked Luke's impression of Bob Dylan, it was actually pretty good.
After the interview they asked if anyone wanted to ask questions and if so that they should go to the mics that were on each side of the auditorium. One girl asked them how someone just starting out as an actor/actress could get ahead in the business. They gave her some general tips, but then Andrew and Luke said, "and you need a lot of money". Finally, Mario Bernengo got up to ask a question, he said that he came there all the way from Sweden and the audience was shocked, haha. Mario asked about Old School 2, which Luke said that he would do, even if Will or Vince didn't do it. So, then it would be him and two other guys.
The event ended five minutes early, but it was nice to see Luke and Andrew up close and see them in person rather than on a television set. It was actually almost like watching it on television. That was the feeling that I got while I was there. Something along the lines of "Inside the Actor's Studio." I was hoping to meet them afterwards but they went off the stage, (probably to some disclosed location where they went out of a back door and right into a limo that would be waiting for them). I enjoyed it; It wasn't as exciting as I thought it would be but it was a nice experience, and I got a few pictures for memories.
Afterwards I met up with Mario Bernengo (who conducted the interview with the Things to Do filmmakers for the Frat Pack Tribute site). I had no idea what Mario (pictured with Sharon at right) looked like but after talking to him on the Frat Pack Forum when he went up to ask his question and said he was from Sweden then I knew that it was him. I would have asked a question for Luke or Andrew but I couldn't think of anything. Mario and I thought that maybe we could get backstage and try to ask Luke and Andrew some questions. So, we said that we were with a website and wanted to know if we could maybe speak with them and ask them a few things. The guy who was the head of the PR department told us that we had to schedule an appointment to speak with them, and even then we probably wouldn't have a chance. Oh well, we tried.
Overall, it was a nice experience and I'm glad that I went.
Thanks for a great report Sharon and Mario! - Ed
Wilson Brothers "Times Talk" Report
by Jennifer Spaulding
Tonight was the interview with the Wilson Brothers as part of The New York Times "Times Talk" series. Unfortunately Owen was sick and so it was only Luke and Andrew. At first I was disappointed, but I have to say that Luke was so charming and witty that I quickly got over the Owen's absence.
They discussed a lot about their relationship as brothers (Luke joked that for the longest time Andrew didn't know they were brothers and just thought he was a neighbor kid who was always hanging around the family). As well as first breaking in with Bottle Rocket and how he spent a long time developing The Wendell Baker Story and how he's working on another script he hopes to have Martin Lawrence star in.
One audience member asked about Old School 2. Luke said he hadn't read the script and imagined it would be difficult to get Will and Vince on board (implying that if the material wasn't as good as the first they wouldn't do it.) When asked if he would do it he replied in his deadpan way, "Yes, I have too" (seeming to joke he wasn't on their level and wouldn't turn it down).
He also told a really funny story about having to fire his mother as a still photographer on the set of Wendell Baker. Apparently there was a conflict with her and another photographer and so she said he goes or I do. Luke said, so you're quitting? She said yes and he said that's coincidence because you're fired.
I'm not sure if any of these anecdotes are being done justice because so much of their humor came from their delivery. Often times they eventually post these events as audio podcasts, so I'll let you know if that happens.
Speaking of podcast, Creative Screenwriting Magazine did an interview with Luke about the movie that is pretty good too (yes, that's a great interview -- Ed.).
I saw The Wendell Baker Story and enjoyed it a lot. It has this wonderful sweetness and genuineness about it. Luke is perfect for the role since he seems to possess a down to earthness and innocence. I certainly found it amusing at times, but was more surprised by how touching parts of it struck me. I was really rooting for Luke's character to fulfill his dreams and enjoyed the relationships he had with the nursing home characters. I think the movie is being promoted as a romantic comedy, but I think that's a bit misleading. I find it's one of those hard to categorize films and would say it's more about how Wendell learns to be a better person (as corny as that sounds.)
I wish a had better pictures from tonight, but it's hard to catch good in focus moments while trying not to be obtrusive.

Wendell Baker Box Office Report
The Wilson Brother's production made $53,600 according to box office estimates, and ranked 10th in per-screen average this weekend ($3,152). This is not bad for a movie that had no advertising but not outstanding either.
Comparatively, Idiocracy averaged $956 but opened in seven times the number of theatres.
Paul Rudd Talks Frat Pack
Paul is on the cover of June 2007 Men's Journal and it's a nice career overview interview. Here's the key quote about how he feels about the Frat Pack:
"Rudd's role in 2001's indie hit Wet Hot American Summer caught the eye of the eye of "comedy people" he says, "which led to Anchorman which led to The 40 Year-Old Virgin. Which led me to be part of this group."
That group is the so-called Frat Pack, a loose coalition of comedy actors that includes Ben Stiller, Seth Rogen, and the Wilson brothers, among others who want to work together again and again, simultaneously embracing and spoofing eternal male adolescence."

BREAKING NEWS: Owen Wilson, Tom Cruise, and Steve Coogan Confirmed
in Tropic Thunder!
Our
Senior Editor Rick Duran has the scoop direct from Thunder costar
Jay Baruchel at today's Knocked Up press junket. Baruchel said that
the movie will be filming for four months and it's a huge production. And
he confirmed the long-standing rumor that Tom Cruise will appear in the movie.
More importantly for Frat Pack fans, Owen Wilson is confirmed as well! Since Owen was named alongside his Night at the Museum buddy
Steve Coogan, we can only speculate that the role will be a small one. Nonetheless,
this means that three Frat Pack stars are appearing in the movie that costars
Ben Stiller (also director/writer) and Jack Black.
Visit the Frat Pack Tribute's Tropic Thunder preview page.
We'll have a lot more from the Knocked Up press junket in the coming days, including the name of the Knocked Up costar who frequents our site...
Paul Rudd Wins Praise in Ex Bomb
Drew Hunt has checked in with a review of the Jason Bateman/Zach
Braff romcom, The Ex. Hindered by an anemic marketing campaign, the
film fared poorly at the box office this past weekend, and unfortunately for
the filmmakers Drew's review does not put a critical shine on the movie either.
Paul Rudd's cameo is praised, however. Check the clip and then read the Frat Pack Tribute's review of The Ex.
Jenna Fischer Update
Judd Apatow noted that Walk Hard had finished filming during today's
press junket. Now, Jenna’s husband James
Gunn (show in photo) posted to his myspace blog:
"Jenna is in some pain, but she’s doing okay. There is no permanent damage, thank God, but she fractured her back in 4 places. She will be okay in time to shoot the new season of The Office, and she just got done shooting Walk Hard. So, as far as good times for breaking your back, now is it.
We’re very very appreciative of all the fan support. The notes are very nice.
A few people have inquired about sending care packages, etc. Please don’t! We are overwhelmed with flowers, snacks, gifts, and just plain stuff! We definitely don’t need anything else.
If people really want to do something, just make a small donation to Rover Rescue in Jenna’s name. Some people have already done this and it’s really appreciated!"
This is good news and those of us at the Frat Pack Tribute wish Jenna well (and we donated to Rover Rescue too!). By the way, Jenna has been doing fine work on The Office, including her Emmy-worthy turn on yesterday's season finale. And word comes today that Walk Hard will be released on December 14, 2007.
The Only Reason I'm Interested in Shrek The Third
Yes, that's Frat Pack Pledge Amy Poehler as Snow White from Shrek The
Third. She's among the new voices on hand for the third Shrek film.

Poehler is joined by some faces voices familiar to Frat Pack fans:
From Left: Cinderella, (Amy Sedaris, Elf, Bewitched), Snow White
(Amy Poehler, Blades of Glory, Envy, Tenacious D in the Pick of Destiny),
Princess Fiona (Cameron Diaz, Something About Mary, The Holiday),
Rapunzel (Maya Rudolph, Idiocracy, Wake Up Ron Burgundy), and Sleeping
Beauty (Cheri Oteri, SNL).

Also look for listen for Seth Rogen as a ship's captain
and John Krasinski as Lancelot.
And while these actors are interesting, I'd still rather be in New York, Los Angeles, or Texas this weekend to see The Wendell Baker Story. If you've seen the movie, please drop us a line, call our hotline (206-666-FRAT) or join the forum discussion.

Apatow Shoots... Scores!
Does this cement Judd Apatow as the coolest guy ever or what? Maybe
he heard about our Knocked Up Fan
Art Contest and decided to show us how it's done. I almost feel
like he should be declared the winner, have the posters sent to him and see
what happens.
Look for more Knocked Up coverage in the coming days!
Wilson Brother Chats Continue
Tonight's chat with Luke and Andew Wilson is at 6:30 pm Pacific time. AIM

The
delay tonight is no doubt due to Luke's promotion of The

Letterman back in 2005 to promote the movie, so Dave must be a big supporter.
Another Late Show note: Jonah Hill from Knocked Up will be guesting

"Ye Olde" Comedy with Jack Black, Will Arnett, John C.
Reilly, and Tim Robbins
Screen
Daily i
s
reporting on a new romantic comedy called Ye Olde Times starring
Jack Black. The two leads are out to casting but Tim Robbins, Will Arnett,
Missi Pyle, and Cary Elwes will also star with a cameo by John C. Reilly.
The contemporary story is budgeted at under $10m and takes place against the world of Renaissance Fairs as two rival Medieval shows vie for supremacy. Black will play the story's narrator Professor Shockworthy, a character in the vein of School Of Rock's Dewey Finn, who tutors a pair of romantically entwined actors in the ways of love and life.
It's unclear how large the roles are for Jack and his Frat Pack friends. With a budget of only $10 million, Jack must not be the star, or it's a labor of love. Either way, we'll be sure to follow the progress of this potential gem.
Shooting is scheduled to begin in September in Gilroy, California, with Michael Mendelsohn producing and Rob A. White making his feature directorial debut.
"Steve Almighty"
NBC
Universal will present an exclusive first look at the upcoming Universal Pictures
event comedy "Evan Almighty" in a simultaneous "roadblock"
on 10 of its networks tomorrow night, Thursday, May 17. This first-ever opportunity
to see new material from the motion-picture comedy will be offered for the
first time anywhere at 8:58 p.m. EST/PST on NBC, MSNBC, SciFi, Bravo, USA,
Universal HD, CNBC, Mun2, Chiller and Sleuth.
On NBC, the first look comes at the conclusion of the season finale in the hit third season of "The Office," starring Steve Carell, who also toplines "Evan Almighty." Following the on-air premiere, an extended preview from "Evan Almighty" will be available exclusively at DotComedy.com.
With this exclusive debut, DotComedy will launch its "Steve Almighty" microsite, a compelling and hilarious online experience which will present new video content every day featuring the comedy of Steve Carell, including material from "Evan Almighty," "The Office," "The 40-Year-Old Virgin" and other sources. Users should return every day to see the new "Steve Carell Clip of the Day" and enjoy the archived content.
Jenna Fischer Recovering from Broken Back
It's true, according to this blog entry on USA
Today's Pop Candy page
"An inquisitive e-mail came from Pop reader Abby V. today:
"I've been hearing that Jenna Fischer got hurt recently, and I was wondering if you had heard anything or knew someone to ask ..."
Unfortunately, there's some truth to that rumor. Fischer's rep tells me the Office star "fractured her lower back in four places" in New York Monday after falling down some marble stairs in high heels. Her pal and co-star Angela Kinsey "has been with her the whole time" and her husband, filmmaker/actor James Gunn, has flown to be with her.
He added, "She is expected to make a full recovery and will not miss any time on The Office.""
It's unclear how this may effect shooting of Walk Hard, the musical parody that Jenna is costarring in with John C. Reilly.
Best wishes to Jenna for a speedy recovery. You may wish to post a comment on Jenna's MySpace page.

Luke Wilson and Andy Dick in Blonde Ambition - Trailer
While we think Andy Dick and Penelope Ann Miller look great as the devious
villains of the movie, we are a bit concerned that this might be the worst
edited movie trailer we've seen for some time. Still, we're holding out hope
that the movie is worth a look when it arrives in theatres later this year.
Wilson Brothers Premiere Wendell Baker in Beverly Hills
The premiere of The Wendell Baker Story at The Writer’s Guild
in Beverly Hills was Thursday night. The brothers arrived to the premiere
separately, but each showed up wearing a dark suit and collared shirt without
a tie! It was as if they had planned for a family portrait.
Luke is on the cover of LA
Confidential magazine and laid this Frat Pack quote down:
"People ask if that bothers me and I say, “Shit, maybe it bothers
somebody like Ben [Stiller] or Jack Black.” But I just feel lucky to
be included in the group. What’s good about it is that every one of
these guys gets his own thing done. When you’re able to get your own
thing done, it does make it easier to say, “Hey, do you mind if I use
Will [Ferrell] in this part?” Or for Ben to have Owen do a part, and
Vince [Vaughn]…. But it’s comedy, so maybe people think, “Oh,
boy, who’s gonna pop up in this?”"

Jack Black Joins Woody Harrelson
With recent public appearances with longtime pals Luke and Owen Wilson, and
costarring in Semi-Pro with Will Ferrell, Woody Harrelson has recently
crept into the Frat Pack Circle of Trust.
And who showed up at the third annual Silverlake Music Conservatory Hullabaloo at the Henry Fonda Theater Saturday (to raise money towards music programs for children of low-income families) where Harrelson was the MC? Yes, that's fellow "hemp" enthusiast Jack Black. Black wasn't there to perform, but to introduce his father-in-law, jazz musician Charlie Haden. More details and photos of the event.

'90s 'SNL' Documentary Airs Tonight
NBC has ordered up another documentary on the history of "Saturday Night
Live," this time focusing on the show's up-and-down ride through the
1990s. "Saturday Night Live in the '90s: Pop Culture Nation"
is the third in a series of films about the late-night institution by director-producer
Kenneth Bowser. The previous two, focusing on the show's early years and the
tribulations of the 1980s, aired in 2005.
As with the past two "SNL" documentaries, "Pop Culture Nation" will be filled with interviews from cast members and writers, including Chris Rock, Mike Myers, Tina Fey, Will Ferrell, Dana Carvey, Cheri Oteri, Molly Shannon, Jimmy Fallon and Tim Meadows. It will also feature two little-used players from the mid-'90s who have since gone on to much wider fame: Sarah Silverman and David Koechner.

Will Ferrell is "Mr. Comedy" while Jim Carrey is Just "Actor"
That's Will Ferrell talking with Jim Carrey and Jenny McCarthy at the Oscar
De La Hoya and Floyd Mayweather Jr. boxing match on Saturday, May 5, 2007,
at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

What's funny is Will was announced as "Mr. Comedy himself, Will Ferrell", while Jim Carrey was referred to as "Jim Carrey, the actor." Jim doesn't look too happy about losing the title of "Mr. Comedy" does he?
On another note, it looks like Will has cut down his 'fro since Thursday's Semi-Pro shoot in Flint, Michigan.
Owen Wilson Draws Ire from Dallas Fans for Golden Cheers
Looks like Owen is in hot water from fans in his native Dallas, Texas. In
a state where even thinking of rooting against anything non-Texas is practically
a crime, Robert Wilonsky of the Dallas Observer is calling Owen out for being
caught cheering for the Golden State Warriors during their recent upset win
over the Dallas Mavericks in the NBA playoffs ("Owen
Wilson, You Got Some 'Splaining To Do, Bro.")

Of course, what's forgotten in the story is that the Warriors' Baron Davis is a childhood classmate of Owen's increasingly visible galpal, Kate Hudson. So, it would appear that Owen is just doing his part to stay in the good graces of Ms. Hudson.
And who could blame him?

Frat Pack Fan Montage

Luke Wilson's Oscar Bait?
MTV
News is reporting that will start filming a new drama in July (which means
he'll be unavailable for Tropic Thunder, unfortunately).
Luke Wilson made a name for himself in "The Royal Tenenbaums" as a man facing a crisis in the middle of his life. That's nothing, he told MTV News, compared to the type of crisis Wilson's "Henry Pool Is Here" character faces at the end of his. "I play a guy who thinks he's dying. He leaves his life behind and goes back to the neighborhood where he grew up to buy a house [where he can] stay and die," Wilson revealed of the new drama from "Arlington Road" director Mark Pellington.
Co-starring recent Academy Award nominee Adriana Barraza ("Babel"), "Henry Pool" is about "faith and redemption," Wilson said. "There is a stain on the wall behind [Henry's] new house that a neighbor thinks is the face of God," Wilson said. "This neighbor [winds up] turning his life upside down. It's just about him finding his faith. I am really looking forward to doing it." The flick, which is still short a female lead, will begin shooting in July.
Wendell Baker's Long and Winding Road
The Dallas News has a big article chronicling the long

But
The Wendell Baker Story remained frustratingly suspended in amber as its
original production company, Mobius Pictures, filed for bankruptcy. Shot
in and around Austin in 2003, Wendell Baker spent almost three years in
what Andrew calls "Hollywood purgatory."Evan Almighty International Trailer Shows Wacky Side of

Sarah Silverman to Host MTV Movie Awards on June 3
She's
fulfilling a lifelong dream, jokes Sarah Silverman, host of this year's MTV
Movie Awards.''Ever since I was a little girl, before it even started in 1980
MTV I said, 'Someday, I want there to be an all-music channel that gives out
awards for movies. And I want to host that show,''' the 36-year-old actress-comedian
said in an interview with The Associated Press.
The show will air live June 3 from the Gibson Amphitheatre in Los Angeles. How is Silverman preparing for her new gig? ''I'm getting ready,'' she said. ''I'm exercising every day and I do 10 push-ups, I do eight sit-ups and then I rinse off. ... I want to go just a little bit too far.'' ''I'm training for this the way what's-her-face trained for 'T2,''' said Silverman, referring to Linda Hamilton in ''Terminator 2: Judgment Day.''

Luke Wilson Says The Frat Pack Would Beat the Rat Pack
Here's the quote from the May 2007 issue of Maxim.
Question: Who would win in a fight, the Frat Pack or the Rat Pack?
"Definitely the Frat Pack. Will Ferrell and Vince Vaughn are both huge and my brother Owen is pretty scrappy. Jack Black would bite you on the cheek. But you'd have to take into account Sinatra's connections."

Vince Vaughn's Wild West Comedy Show Movie Delayed to
2008
According
the Hollywood Reporter, Picturehouse and New Line International have nabbed
all international rights to the comedy performance documentary "Vince
Vaughn's Wild West Comedy Show: 30 Days & 30 Nights -- Hollywood to the
Heartland."
The pickup comes seven months after the Weinstein Co. purchased the feature for $2.5 million-$3.5 million after its premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, part of the new indie studio's pricey acquisitions spree. After tentatively slating the film for release in the spring, the company put the project back up for sale with UTA a few weeks ago.
Ari Sandel's film, produced by Vaughn, follows the actor as
he leads a team of unknown comics on a monthlong tour across the U.S. Picturehouse
will release the film domestically in early 2008,
and New Line International will handle overseas distribution.

Stiller, Wilson: a great team that never met
A reminder that Ben and Owen's latest and most unusual collaboration is in
stores today (Order
Night at the Museum).
"The
interesting thing about those scenes is literally the way we did it, because
Ben and Owen weren't even in the same country," says director Shawn Levy.
Instead Stiller did his bits on his own and Owen showed up later to be incorporated
into the scenes through computer wizardry. "We literally shot the scene
with Ben talking to a toothpick," Levy laughs.
"He would say the scripted line to the toothpick and then he would do 20 more variations on the scripted line to the toothpick. Then I would have to watch it all and write down every variation that Ben did.
"Then, three months later when Owen showed up, I would sit there and feed him all 20 versions from Ben so I could get 20 possible reactions. Then, literally, I figured out editorially which ones I wanted to put together. So it was improvisational, but unlike any other improv I've been a part of." (Leader-Post)

The Wilson Brothers: More Alike Than You Think
by Amy Gilbert
In honor of the soon to be released The Wendell Baker Story, I’ve
decided to explore a little known fact about brothers Andrew, Owen and Luke.
Upon first glance of the trio, one would think they could not be any more
different. Not only do they not even look alike, Andrew with a rugged mountain
man look and amiable smile, Owen with the shaggy blond hair and quick wit,
and handsome and laconic youngest brother Luke, they don’t even appear
to be distant cousins, by marriage, twice removed. Everyone would agree they
are all attractive, ambitious and successful in their own right, but brothers?
I have observed the three do something alike. Each brother wears their watch on their dominant arm rather than the non-dominant.

Let’s take Owen for example. Owen stands out because, unlike Andrew and Luke, Owen is left handed. Perhaps to fit in, Owen sports his watch on his left hand. Really this is no surprise, many south paws do this, including Owen’s left handed Frat Pack buddy Ben Stiller. Luke and Andrew wear their watches on their right arm, continuing this unlikely family tradition. Luke’s lefty friend Will Ferrell wears his watch on his right as Luke does. So, on the surface, the Wilson brothers may appear different, but are little more alike than you realized. A small connection the three Wilson brothers share, to each other, and their best friends.

Update from Amy Gilbert
Caroline Wilkins wrote: "Um....Andrew is actually left handed, so I am
not so sure about the watch on dominant hand thing."
Caroline, I am SOOOOOO sorry. I wrote that and apparently did not do the proper homework. I was basing most of the fact that he was right handed of his performance (firing the flame thrower) in Idiocracy and the right handed gun holster in Charlie's Angels. But now, upon looking at a picture of him writing in Church Ball, I discover have made a grave error. Darn those pesky director's making left handed actors play right handed (see the guitar playing scenes in Stranger than Fiction and Starsky & Hutch among others).
But this is a nice find, two out of 3 sons left handed. I wonder if the Wilson's have a left handed parent like Ben Stiller (Anne Meara).

Ah, the life of a fan writer, and Andrew's message is well... FUNNY!! ***groan** Kevin's never going to post another another article of mine again.... :-) (Don't worry, Amy -- Ed.)
Vacancy Opens Behind Blades of Glory
Well, this is surely unfavorable news for Luke Wilson, as his new horror flick
Vacancy opened with an estimated $7.6 million this weekend. That's behind
Blades of Glory, which skated to $7.8 million in it's fourth week and passing
the $100 million mark to date.

Comedy Star Luke Wilson Moves to Horror with Vacancy,

2008 Release Dates for Semi-Pro, Drillbit, Be Kind
Complicate Frat Pack Man of the Year Speculation
Commentary by Rick Duran.
Just like the Presidential primaries being moved up, Frat Pack 2008 has been frontloaded to Spring.
These
dates basically put Jack and Owen of the running for Frat Pack Man of the
Year. Will Ferrell is coming off a win in 2006 and Blades of Glory
has been a hit, but what else does he have this year? The swim at USC isn't
the only race he won't be winning this year.
Instinct tells me (without any surprise win for Rogen or Rudd) this could be the year for Vince. That's based on the assumption Fred Claus is a runaway hit. The Wild West Comedy Show will probably be small, but Vince's 07 is largely dependant on how the drama Into the West is received. If it can at least do Stranger than Fiction numbers, he might have my vote.
Steve's
got the iffy year. Evan Almighty could be the next Night at the
Museum, he could win the Emmy and those could all snowball into big numbers
for Dean in Real Life. Or Evan could be the flop some are
predicting, he could lose the Emmy, and Dan does small numbers. Or
he could do fairly and be runner up.
Luke: Here's our wild card. Vacancy is a career turning point. This could put him back on people's radar. Blonde Ambition... could do Super Ex/Employee of the Month numbers or could be a hit. I doubt The Wendell Baker Story will reach a mass audience, but if Vacancy and Blonde are hits, TWBS finally getting released is a strong footnote.
Ben, I'm not sure about, especially since he's got some big guns for 2008. Sure, most of Night at the Museum's dollars was from this year, but it is an 06 release. Not sure that Heartbreak Kid can overshadow things like Blades of Glory, Claus or Knocked Up.
Owen: The Darjeeling Limited is it for Owen this year, and Wes Anderson isn't known for box office hits. Owen needs another Oscar nod for serious contention.
Jack: He's got Noah Baumbach's Margot at the Wedding. Unless he becomes an Oscar frontrunner, he's probably in last place.
If there's an honorable mention, I'd say Jonah Hill should get credit for having 4 movies open this summer (Knocked Up, Evan Almighty, Strange Wilderness, Superbad).
The Story Behind Will Ferrell's 'Cursing Baby' Video: Pearl McKay
Speaks Out
Looks
like Will Ferrell and Adam McKay's plan for comedy world domination is starting
to work. Their Landlord
internet video is a huge hit. "We invited a friend with a camera
over and shot it in about 45 minutes," says McKay, who set up the website,
Funnyordie.com, as a platform for his and his friends short form comedy films.
"We shot several shorts but we liked this one the best. I am not sure
that it is the funniest – it is just that you can't beat Will being
cursed out by a 2-year old."
Now, McKay's daughter and 2008's biggest breakout star speaks to People Magazine. "What do you think of Daddy's friend Will Ferrell? What is he like? He silly. He have doggies at his house. He also not getting his deposit back for water damage in the hallway." (People)
Great Luke Wilson Article in BestLife
Nice
to see our man on the cover. "And now there are signs that Luke Wilson
is beginning to build his own legacy. He recently wrapped Vacancy, a creepy
thriller with Kate Beckinsale that Wilson describes as the kind of movie designed
to open at number one. And then there is his own work. “The closest
thing I have to a philosophy is that doing films like Legally Blonde, which
may not be to my taste, would make it easier to get my own films made.”
When The Wendell Baker Story came together with Wilson as auteur, he turned
it into a complete family affair: Andrew signed on as codirector and Laura
Cunningham Wilson (Mom) worked as the still photographer on the set. The film,
about an indefatigable con man who ends up the unlikely protector of the residents
in a retirement hotel, wrapped up late last year."

Profile of Up and Coming Fratter, Jay Baruchel
There's a nice profile of Jay Baruchel from his native Canada. He's
featured prominently in the Knocked Up trailer and is gearing up
for a big role in a future Frat Pack Classic, Tropic Thunder. Now
is a good time to learn more about this promising actor.
The $100-million (U.S.) Ben Stiller-directed Tropic Thunder will have him spending three months in Hawaii and another month in L.A.
On the phone Thursday from his N.D.G apartment, Baruchel was pumped to talk about this ambitious DreamWorks production, calling it "the biggest opportunity I've ever had."
Baruchel will star alongside Stiller, Jack Black and Robert Downey Jr. in this comedy about a gang of actors shooting a Vietnam War flick somewhere in southeast Asia who are thrust into a real-life battle. Baruchel plays the youngest of the actors, a wet-behind-the-ears newcomer.
Baruchel - whose biggest movie to date was the Clint Eastwood Oscar-winner Million Dollar Baby - has plenty of other exciting stuff to talk about, including his next film release, Knocked Up, a comedy from The 40-Year-Old Virgin writer-director Judd Apatow due in theatres on June 1; the Weinstein Company comedy Fanboys, set to hit screens across North America in August; and the Canadian hit-man laugher Real Time.
His spirits pick up when we start talking about Tropic Thunder, which he describes as "Three Amigos or Galaxy Quest in 'Nam." He said he and Stiller immediately connected. "We have a kind of shared heritage, with the whole half-Irish, half-Jewish thing," said Baruchel, who leaves for Hawaii in mid-July. "So we got off on that foot. We just talked about what movies we thought were funny." (Gazette)
Revisiting The Family Stone
This film kind of fell under the radar in the post-Crashers/Virgin
period. But, with Luke Wilson coming to theatres this weekend in Vacancy
and with The Wendell Baker Story gearing up for release on May 18,
it's a good time to revisit this underrated but very charming family dramedy.
Jonathan Lim takes look at the film that also stars Wedding Crashers'
Rachel McAdams as well as Craig T. Nelson, recently seen in Blades of
Glory.

Crushing Defeat as Will Ferrell Flounders at USC Swimming
Pool on Saturday
On the same day that his movie Talladega Nights lost the
GLAAD Media Award for feature films to Little Miss Sunshine, comedian
and USC alum Will Ferrell suffered an even greater setback.
As part of the "Swim With Mike" fundraiser, Ferrell jumped in the pool to race USC football coach Pete Carroll. It was age before beauty in the end, as the Trojan head coach came away with the victory.
In a post-swim press conference, Ferrell told reporters that although he started strong, he stopped to look at the cheering crowd, which allowed Coach Carroll to secure the win. (AOL Sports)

IMDB Poll: Who is most qualified to join the Frat Pack?
With 17,941 votes, a clear fan-favorite has emerged! These results
are simply shocking. Not that Rudd is in first place, but by such a large
amount. Reilly is pretty well-known so I would have thought he'd do better.
Underappreciated David Koechner is no surprise for last place, but I would
have thought Seth Rogen would do a lot better than Justin Long. (IMDB

Creepy Subplot for New Stiller / Jason Schwartzman Picture
If
you thought the age difference between Steve Carell and Anne Hathaway in Get
Smart was a little, well, creepy, you're not going to like this.
Anna Kendrick has signed on to star opposite Ben Stiller and Jason Schwartzman in The Marc Pease Experience for Paramount Vantage and Groundswell Prods. Helmed by Todd Louiso, the film centers on Marc Pease (Schwartzman), a man 10 years out of high school and still living in the past, when he was the star in his high school's musicals. During the course of one day, as Pease's former teacher/mentor Mr. Gribble (Stiller) oversees the opening night of another show, Pease finally exorcises his demons and realizes there's more to life than Broadway artistry.
Kendrick, who plays a high school senior romantically involved with both Schwartzman and Stiller's characters, brings Broadway credentials to the role. She was nominated for a best actress Tony for her turn in the musical "High Society." (Hollywood Reporter)

Well, seeing how Arnett killed in Blades of Glory and is now filming another supporting turn in Will Ferrell's next sports comedy, we have now moved him up into the red circle. He's still behind wife Amy Poehler but at least he's right next to her.

'90s 'SNL' Gets Documentary Treatment; NBC will look back at Carvey-Myers-Ferrell
era
"Saturday Night Live in the '90s" is scheduled to air Sunday, May 6 on NBC.

Blades Debuts at Number One with $33 Million
Like a skater who stumbles but still takes the gold, Blades of Glory
reached number one at the box office with an estimated $33 million this weekend.
However, that number is surely a disappointment after Friday's $12 million
take that indicated a total closer to $40 million.
Still, the movie performed very well and it's up to word of mouth to determine
long-term success. All we have to say is that Blades of Glory (

the most consistently funny movie since Wedding Crashers.

Fire Threatens Hollywood Sign and Frat Pack Headquarters
As Jack
Black noted last year, “It was Ben Stiller who called up all the
top comedians to his headquarters in the Hollywood sign. We meet there and
talk about what our plan is to dominate the world of comedy." A brush
fire Friday threatened the L.A. icon and Frat Pack headquarters as well! Fortunately,
no lives were lost.

The firefighters in this photo are unidentified, but on the day that Will Ferrell's new movie opened, Ben Stiller, Owen Wilson, Luke Wilson, and Jack Black were "unavailable for comment" according to publicists. Coincidence?

It's
a different kind of podcast episode this time. Our Senior Editor Rick Duran
visited the set of Will Ferrell's upcoming basketball comedy, Semi-Pro,
and sits down to tell us about it. He has interesting tidbits about the movie
such as the cast and crew's respect for Will Ferrell's improv skills, a recent
Owen Wilson set visit, how Woody Harrelson is a fan favorite, and that Steve
Carell really is a nice guy.
Oh, and Rick was able to talk to Semi-Pro and Blades of Glory star Will Arnett who dropped a bombshell; he's seen our Frat Pack Circle of Trust. And he gave Rick a good-natured hard time about his placement!

New Evan Almighty Trailer To Debut During The
Office on Thursday
The trailer for Universal Pictures' event comedy Evan Almighty will
debut on Thursday, March 29, during the marathon of NBC's The Office. NBC
will premiere the trailer during its "Night at the Office" event,
in which airings of multiple episodes of the hit sitcom will air over the
course of that evening's prime time (8 pm - 11 pm Eastern/Pacific; 7 pm -
10 pm Central).
Additionally,
the feature comedy trailer will be promoted on the entertainment news program
Access Hollywood during both the Wednesday and Thursday editions of the show.
Steve Carell, reprising his role as the polished, preening newscaster Evan Baxter of Bruce Almighty, is the next one anointed by God to accomplish a holy mission in the hilarious new comedy Evan Almighty. Blockbuster comedy director Tom Shadyac (The Nutty Professor, Liar Liar, Bruce Almighty) returns behind the camera for this next episode of divine intervention. This time, however, his cast grows two-by-two.
Newly elected to Congress, Evan leaves Buffalo behind and shepherds his family to suburban northern Virginia. Once there, his life gets turned upside-down when God (Morgan Freeman) appears and mysteriously commands him to build an ark. But his befuddled family just can't decide whether Evan is having an extraordinary mid-life crisis or is truly onto something of Biblical proportions...
Evan Almighty also stars Lauren Graham, John Goodman, John Michael Higgins, Jimmy Bennett, Wanda Sykes and Jonah Hill. The film will be released on June 22, 2007.

From: The

Judd Apatow Let's it all Hang Out
Frat Packager Judd Apatow cleansed his soul
with his most recent column
for MTV News.
"This has been an odd week because "Knocked Up" premiered at the South by Southwest film festival in Austin, Texas, and has been getting fantastic reviews. Reviews that make me think that a painful backlash is inevitable. I feel like starting the backlash, just to get it over with. It makes me want to examine my entire relationship with criticism.
The first film I co-wrote, "Heavyweights," was panned across-the-board. It has become a little bit of a cult classic since then, if you define cult classic by this standard: More than 1,000 people in a country of 300 million really dig it. I consider myself one of them. "The Cable Guy" is remembered as a movie that got terrible reviews, but I always remind people that Gene Siskel loved it, as did Michael Wilmington in Chicago. If you e-mail me, I will send you a list of every good review that movie got. Almost 20 percent of the reviews were good, not that I'm counting. I really loved that movie, so the bad reviews were especially painful.
I was thrilled when "The 40-Year-Old Virgin," my directing debut, was warmly received. In fact, I was somewhat shocked because at no point during the making of a movie called "The 40-Year-Old Virgin" do you expect anyone to go out of their way to praise you. It may be the first time that a movie in which a man pees in his own face got a good review from The New Yorker.
So now, as I sit here having felt the pain and pleasure of critical response, I must again state that the critics are always right. They are certainly right about "Knocked Up," which Variety says is "uproarious" and "more explosively funny, more frequently than nearly any major studio release in recent memory.""
By the way, Judd, we'd like to think that this line from your column is true:
"I like to put my name in the Google news and blog alerts and receive
every single thing written about me and my work on the Internet." Honestly
though, we're a big skeptical.
How 'bout you prove us wrong and drop us a line to say hello or call our voicemail 206-666-FRAT? As one of the thousand people who dug Heavyweights and featured it in a podcast episode, I think we've earned it. I'm sure the Frat Pack fans would be thrilled by a greeting from one of our heroes.

Another Video Cameo for Ben Stiller
Building on his legacy from the Tenacious D "Tribute" and Jack Johnson

"Closer." Unfortunately, this is far from the "best song in
the world."

Not Quite One of Those Guys Now
by Rick Duran, Senior Editor

Our forum has been discussing which "Pledge" has the best chance of joining the Frat Pack. It looks like John C. Reilly, having two lead roles and his recent Oscar performance with Will and Jack, is next in line for a Steve Carell-like initiation. It'd be a shock, and disappointment, if Will and/or Jack didn't make a cameo in Reilly's Walk Hard for example.
However, there's one Pledge who keeps adding to his Frat Pack resume, and it's not the Apatow-blessed Seth Rogen.
In
the past week, it's been revealed that David Koechner will appear in Ferrell's
Semi-Pro, Reilly's Walk Hard and, according to this interview,
Carell's Get Smart. Koechner's been on our radar lately thanks to
his deleted scene in Pick of Destiny, his upcoming lead role in The
Comebacks, but especially his ability to get Will, Jack, and Steve to
make time for cameos in his Naked Trucker & T-Bones Show.
Koechner's major setback is that he needs another Champ Kind-sized role in a Frat Pack movie to carry some weight. Had The Comebacks featured a Frat Pack-flavored cast (ala Steve's Virgin), it could've sealed the deal.
What
about Paul Rudd, whom some reporters already call a Frat Pack member? He's
got the credibility, with roles in Anchorman, Virgin, and
Night at the Museum. He too made a cameo for Koechner's T-Bones Show.
Rudd is also one Reilly-sized starring role, with the appropriate cast and
cameos, away from the Pack. If he doesn't get in the Pack, we're gonna "Yah-Mo-burn
this place to the ground."
As for newly anointed leading men Seth Rogen (Knocked Up) and Justin Long (Accepted)? High rollers like Rudd and Reilly raise the stakes in the Frat Pack game, while Koechner's resume sets a new standard for an appropriate number of small roles. For now, we think the Junior Varsity will stay the same size.
Unless, of course, Ben Stiller plucks one of these guys for Tropic Thunder,
which would change everything...

Update: Koechner has a T-Bones film in development with Paramount Vantage and Gary Sanchez Productions, Will Ferrell and Andy McKay's production company. So, maybe it will be Will Ferrell who will do the plucking!
Carell Honored at ShoWest
There's no better example of how Steve's profile is, well, a whole lot higher
than Paul Rudd or David Koechner's than this. That's Steve in Las Vegas on

is your favorite actor of "The Frat Pack"?
Steve
Carell (26.3%)This result is pretty shocking. While it's no surprise to see Luke at the bottom, Ben Stiller only got 10.6% even after the success of Night at the Museum? Steve has more votes than Ben, Owen, and Luke combined! Sure hope this translate into box office sucess for Evan Almighty.

Universal Praise in First Reviews of Knocked Up
The Seth Rogen/Judd Apatow follow-up to The 40 Year-Old Virgin premiered
at SXSW this week. Here are some of the reviews:
As a fan of Judd Apatow and Seth Rogen, I had been setting "Knocked Up" for huge disappointment the minute I heard it was in development. The expectations were unfair, but the comedic pairing (and word that Paul Rudd was in the mix too) had the film on a pedestal position too perfect for any film to live up to. Going into the screening, I realized that it might be good, might be funny, but it'll likely never live up to my expectations. Leaving the theater, I realized I'm full of shit, as my expectations were exceeded and "Knocked Up" rocked the house in ways I didn't even imagine it could.
Believe the hype, "Knocked Up" is one of the funniest films of 2007. It's too early in the year to crown it the supreme funniest title, but save for something so funny your head explodes in the theater, I think it'll take the title by year's end. Seth Rogen, we web slackers salute you! (Film Threat)
It really is a testament to the writing talents of Judd Apatow that he could take such a simplistically "sitcommy" concept like "slacker slob unexpectedly impregnates an upwardly-mobile young hottie" and turn it into such a warm, witty and frequently drop-dead hilarious motion picture. Clocking in at well over two glorious hours in length, Knocked Up is yet another brilliant little winner from the man who brought you The 40-Year-Old Virgin, Freaks and Geeks and Undeclared -- thereby proving that network television's loss is cinema's massive gain.
And then there's the supporting cast, about which I can only say "wow." Just like he did with Virgin, Apatow stocks every scene with funny people: Paul Rudd (as Alison's mild-mannered but dryly hilarious brother-in-law) steals a half-dozen scenes without even raising his voice and Leslie Mann (as Alison's sister Debbie) is quite excellent throughout. As Ben's buddies, Jonah Hill, Jason Segel, Jay Baruchel and Grant Hayes play like a marijuana-soaked Greek chorus. I could also rattle off the half-dozen (rather amusing) cameo appearances, but I don't want to spoil any of the surprises. (Cinematical)"Knocked Up" is uproarious. Line for line, minute to minute, writer-director Judd Apatow's latest effort is more explosively funny, more frequently, than nearly any other major studio release in recent memory. Indeed, even more than the filmmaker's smash-hit sleeper "The 40-Year-Old Virgin," his new pic is bound to generate repeat business among ticketbuyers who'll want to savor certain scenes and situations again and again, if only to memorize punchlines worth sharing with buddies. Currently set for a June 1 release, this hugely commercial comedy likely will remain in megaplexes throughout the summer and, possibly, into the fall.
Apatow relies relatively little on sight gags or physical slapstick, preferring to earn his guffaws from characters revealing themselves in conversations and quarrels, bull sessions and soul-bearings. The insult-heavy interplay among Ben and his roomies (well-cast Jay Baruchel, Jonah Hill, Jason Segel and Martin Starr) recalls the hectoring give-and-take among the title character's co-workers in "Virgin." (Variety)Bottom Line: Laugh-filled blend of blunt banter and heartfelt romance makes a charming follow-up to "The 40-Year-Old Virgin."
Sex is still funny in "Knocked Up," Judd Apatow's follow-up to "The 40-Year-Old Virgin" that plows the same fields -- balancing outrageousness with sentiment, pairing men-children with mature women -- without feeling at all like a retread. Although first-date couples might shy away from the subject matter, the film's appeal and particularly its word-of-mouth should be as strong as its predecessor's. (The Hollywood Reporter)
Jack Black Signs to Star in Ben Stiller's Tropic Thunder!
Biiiig news comes from Production
Weekly, who are reporting that Jack Black has signed to costar in Ben
Stiller's next starring/directing feature, Tropic Thunder.
Jack Black has signed on to star in the Ben Stiller-helmed comedy “Tropic Thunder,” with Robert Downey Jr. and Jay Baruchel. In the film, everything goes wrong during the making of a big-budget war movie, and the actors end up becoming the commandos they are playing. Stiller, Justin Theroux and Etan Cohen penned the screenplay. Black will play Jeff “Fats” Portnoy, an overweight gross-out comedian, who’s forced to kick his drug addiction while filming on location in the jungle. Downey will play Kirk Lazarus, the greatest actor of his generation and a four-time Oscar winner. Baruchel (Knocked Up) will play Kevin Sandusky, an unknown actor on the set and Stiller plays Speedman. Shooting is set to begin in July.
Ben looks to be playing a variant of Mr. Furious from Mystery Men, or another tightly wound character ala David Starsky.
It would seem that a "handsome leading man" type would be the final ingredient for this ensemble comedy. And, as far as we know, both Owen and Luke Wilson are free of projects come July. Let's cross our fingers for some more Frat Pack magic!
You've got to hand it Stiller for creating a project and role perfect his buddy Jack. Once again, we must salute the leader of the Frat Pack, Mr. Ben Stiller. Sir, yes sir!

Casting News for Two Anticipated Frat Pack Projects
The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Robert Downey Jr.
is taking the role that Tom Cruise turned down in Ben Stiller's Tropic
Thunder. "In the film, everything goes wrong during the
making of a big-budget war movie, and the actors end up becoming the commandos

Additionally, the same publication is reporting that Alan Arkin will be reuiniting with his Little Miss Sunshine costar Steve Carell in the Get Smart movie. "Arkin will play the chief of CONTROL, the organization that fights the evil forces of KAOS. Carell is on board as secret agent Maxwell Smart, with Anne Hathaway as Agent 99. Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and Terrence Stamp also have been cast." Having read the script to Get Smart, I can tell you that Arkin is a great addition to this movie and is well cast for the role of Chief. (Hollywood Reporter)

unauthorized clips of the kudocast.
Several segments of the show, including host Ellen DeGeneres' opening monologue and musical numbers featuring Will Ferrell and Beyonce, had been among YouTube's most-viewed content this week.
Ferrell's musical lament about how comedies never win Oscars, sung with Jack Black and John C. Universal Acclaim for Ferrell/Black/Reilly Song at Oscars
The critics were mixed on the show and on the host, but there's one
thing everyone can agree on; the highlight of the show was the hilarious song
sung by Will Ferrell, Jack Black, and John C. Reilly.
"It
was the sort of crowd-pleasing, self-critical show-stopping skit that should
have started the show" - Tom
Long / The Detroit News
"(Ellen is) not the type for big, musical numbers -- hence the bit with Will Ferrell, Jack Black and John C. Reilly. Now, that was funny. That was entertaining. That was what we needed more of last night." - Erik Davis / Cinematical
"Ferrell, Black and Reilly:Three kings of Oscar comedy" - Stone Martindale / Monsters and Critics
“This song is funny. I’m jealous.” - David Spade / The Showbiz Show
"It seems like every year at the Oscars, the Frat Pack gets thrown one honorary segment to sort of acknowledge their existence, ‘coz God knows they’re not gonna get it through nominations. This is of course the main joke of “A Comedian at the Oscars,” which sees Will Ferrell and Jack Black do a stirring musical number bemoaning this exclusion and threatening to take on the nominees in fisticuffs, only to be interrupted by John C. Reilley (a nominee himself for Chicago), who calms the duo by insisting that you can do “both Boogie and Talladega Nights.”" - Andrew Unterberger - Intensities in Ten Suburbs
Little Miss Sunshine's Cinderella Story Ends
Steve Carell's indie-comedy came this close... but did not win Best
Picture. The film picked up two awards, Best Original Screenplay and Best
Supporting Actor - Alan Arkin.

Will Ferrell and Jack Black Joined by "Surprise" Guest
John C. Reilly at Oscars
As we speculated, John C. Reilly did indeed join Will Ferrell and Jack Black
for a special song about comedians never winning awards at the Oscars. "A
comedian at the Oscars/the saddest man of all..."
The best part of the song were the "challenges" to dramatic stars. Will: "Ryan Gosling, you're hip and now. I'm going to break your hip, right now!. Then Jack challenged Peter O'Toole with "I'm gonna beat you down with my Nickelodeon award." To which O'Toole responded with a completely clueless look. penned by Judd Apatow and Adam McKay. So, it looks like Jack Black and Will
Ferrell are the guys who will bring the funny!

Third Fockers Film Looks Probable. Unfortunately.
We've long advocated a position that we do not want a third Fockers film,
especially one centered around a baby (didn't they have enough baby humor
in the second one?).
So,
it is with some trepidation that we point out a Variety
report that indicates Litte Fockers is in the works thanks to
a new production deal for Robert DeNiro's Tribeca Productions. According to
the article, "Hope is to bring back not only Ben Stiller, De Niro, Teri
Polo and Blythe Danner, but also Dustin Hoffman and Barbra Streisand. The
effort makes strong financial sense: "Meet the Parents" grossed
$330 million worldwide, "Meet the Fockers" $515 million."
"Producers are working with Jay Roach, who directed both "Meet the Parents" and "Meet the Fockers," to hatch the third pic" accordin to Variety. Scripting is Larry Stuckey, "Roach's former assistant who collaborated with the director on several scripts."
Though Meet the Fockers had some funny moments, at times it seemed like a reshash of Meet the Parents, a film we thought was one of Ben Stiller's best. So, we wonder what's the purpose of a third film, except to pad DeNiro and Stiller's bank accounts. It would also seem unlikely that Owen Wilson would return for a kid-focused picture.
Ben Stiller crowned Hasty Pudding's 'man of the year'
Actor
Ben Stiller had to put on pink shoes, a blonde wig and silver headband to
strut against an Owen Wilson impersonator before claiming Harvard University's
Hasty Pudding Man of the Year award.
"Just like home, honey," Stiller said to his actress wife, Christine Taylor, as he put on the female attire during the Friday event organized by the Hasty Pudding Theatricals, the nation's oldest undergraduate drama troupe.
Stiller, 41, played along with the good-natured traditional Hasty Pudding roast, which lampooned his career. He won the award decades after dropping out of film school at the University of California, Los Angeles.
The awards are given to performers who have made a "lasting and impressive contribution to the world of entertainment".
"This is the closest I've ever been to Harvard," Stiller said. "I feel that everything tonight was a great, great honor."
"Ben Stiller has really pioneered in many ways, news forms of comedy," Joshua Lachter, the press and publicity manager for the Hasty Pudding Theatricals, said. "When we had the opportunity to invite him, we really jumped at it," Lachter said.
Scarlett Johansson received the Hasty Pudding Woman of the Year award last week. Last year's honorees were Halle Berry and Richard Gere.
Luke Wilson's Vacancy Trailer
This isn't happy-go-lucky Luke. Coming in April is Vacancy, a thriller
about a couple who find themselves in the middle of a snuff film. Scary stuff
to be sure but I like Frank Whaley and Kate Beckinsale so this might be worth
a look. If you can stomach it...
Carell honor brings smile to ShoWest
Steve
Carell will be feted as comedy star of the year at ShoWest, the annual film
industry convention set for March 12-15 at the Bally's and Paris hotels in
Las Vegas. Carell, who emerged as a comic leading man in 2005's "The
40-Year-Old Virgin," most recently starred in the Oscar-nominated "Little
Miss Sunshine."
"What makes Steve so deserving of this honor is the incredible range of comedic ability and agility that he effortlessly showcases onscreen," ShoWest co-managing director Mitch Neuhauser said in announcing the honor. "He can play it broad and hilarious with the best of them, and even more impressive may be the uncanny way he can play it oh so straight and low key for laughs -- and yet with a touch of pathos -- as clearly evidenced this past year with 'Little Miss Sunshine.' "
Carell will next be seen reprising the role of newscaster Evan Baxter he created in 2003's "Bruce Almighty" in that movie's sequel, "Evan Almighty." That film from Universal Pictures and Spyglass Entertainment is set for release June 22. Carell, who first gained attention as a correspondent on Comedy Central's "The Daily Show With Jon Stewart," stars on the NBC series "The Office," for which he earned a 2006 Golden Globe for best actor in a TV series, musical or comedy.

"Created with die-hard D fans in mind, The Pick of Destiny successfully blends great music, goofy antics and a light-hearted story with energy to spare. That's not to say that newcomers won't enjoy themselves, but it's probably a good idea to get acquainted before jumping right in. Those who enjoyed the film theatrically should enjoy New Line's DVD package, equipped with an excellent technical presentation and a goblet full of entertaining extras. Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny may be a one-note song full of lowbrow humor, but darned if it isn't catchy. Highly Recommended."

Steve Carell an Oscar Presenter Too
Word
from the Academy Awards is that Steve Carell is now officially on the list
of presenters, along with Ben Stiller's new BFF Tom Cruise.
No word on what Steve's role will be. Some rumors have tapped Adam Sandler to perform with Jack Black and Will Ferrell, but we think Sandler is all wrong for this. Steve, on the other hand, has shown he can actually sing and be funny at the same time.

Jack and Will Back for Round Two at this Year's Oscar
Ceremony?
Let's see if we can connect the dots on these two items, shall we?
From USA Today: "Comedy veterans team up for Oscar song. Two of Hollywood's leading purveyors of cheeky raunch — Judd Apatow (writer/director of The 40-Year-Old Virgin and the upcoming Knocked Up) and Adam McKay (writer/director of Talladega Nights) — are teaming up with Marc Shaiman (who wrote songs for the South Park movie and the upcoming Hairspray) for a special song-and-dance production number for ABC's Oscar telecast Feb. 25. No word on who will sing it."
From E!: "Two funny men, Will Ferrell and Jack Black, have agreed to perform on the big night, a source tells me. While Black and Ferrell's rep says, "Don't believe everything you've heard," a source tells me the two are set to sing an original—and very funny—tune. I don't want to ruin it for anyone, but I promise if it does happen, you will love it."
Who could forget Jack and Will at the Oscars in 2004? Looks like we're in for a repeat performance! And if Apatow and McKay are working together on it, it's certain to be very funny indeed.

Sunshine and Steve Carell Clean Up at Writers
Guild Awards
The
Little Miss Sunshine train keeps rolling. The film won at the Writers
Guild Awards for Best Original Screenplay on Sunday. Meanwhile, The Office
won the award for Best Comedy Series, honoring twelve of the season's writers,
and Steve Carell took the award for Best Episode ("Casino Night").
Upon accepting his award, Carell evoked a big laugh by saying tongue-in-cheek, "The other writers did not help me, so I celebrate me."

In other film date news:
Does Will Ferrell Dislike "The Frat Pack" Concept?
After the news that Will Ferrell's manager had him pulled from the
Vanity Fair cover, do you think Will Ferrell is legitimately unhappy with
the whole Frat Pack concept? It may be hard to remember now, but it took him
a long time to establish himself outside of being "that guy from SNL."
Maybe he's just not thrilled with the idea of being associated with too many
people.
Here's an entertaining opinion piece from Mario Bernengo.
He may be unhappy with it, but I don't know for how good a reason. It was his Frat Pack roles that took him out of that SNL pigeon hole. Mugatu was his first big part outside the SNL spinoff stuff. And Old School was his first "real" character that actually required acting chops beyond the zany, spoofy characters he did on SNL or in his movies prior to Old School. I would say the Frat Pack has done nuthin' but nuthin' but right by Will Ferrell, and by pretty much everyone who's made it into their circle (well, maybe with the exception of Kilborn, but I don't think he has anyone else but himself to blame..)
And once he left SNL it didn't take that long to become the megastar he is today. Some three or four years, since he left in '03. (By comparison, after how long in the biz did a guy like Tom Cruise start earning Tom Cruise money..? And more importantly, where is Tom now? Crying on Ben Stiller's shoulder, that's where.) Will was just on that show for a really, really long time. And he left the highest-paid cast member ever because he was the show, basically. Every writer's favorite and the audience's too.
I think, after he left the show, people stopped thinking about him in terms of "that guy from SNL" in like a year, and started to think of him as his characters. He became everybody's Frank the Tank as Old School took off, especially on DVD. Then he became everybody's Elf (to be able to pull off those two characters in the same year speaks volumes of how he's perceived by the moviegoers), then he became Ron Burgundy, now he's Ricky Bobby. And this spring he's gonna be Chazz Michael Michaels.
And then I think he should take some quiet time with his family, and look around at his loved ones, and his house, and his pets, and ask "Why? Why? Why?" I'm pretty sure the answer he's looking for is "because Ben Stiller says it's OK."
(That last part was like a double or triple cross-pop cultural reference, a prize for whomever gets it right, especially the last line.)

Ben's parents Jerry Stiller and Anne Meara are Hollywood
Star Honorees
Legendary comedic duo Jerry Stiller and Anne Meara were honored with
a joint star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Friday. Together, the couple
was known as comedy duo Stiller and Meara and they became regulars on the
Ed Sullivan Show where they set an endearing routine of light hearted, self-pointed
humor. They also joined the improvisational team The Compass Players which
later became The Second City. They are only the fourth married couple to share
a star. Previous duo honorees include Sonny and Cher, television personalities
Ozzie and Harriet Nelson and radio stars Fibber McGee and Molly.
Jerry Stiller's career took off again during his stint as George Costanza's father on the hit comedy series Seinfeld. He currently plays the grumpy grandpa Arthur Spooner on King of Queens. Anne Meara was a regular on the 1980s sit-com Archie Bunker's Place, a spin off of the 1970s All in the Family. She was then cast as the grandmother in the TV series ALF. Recently she has appeared on HBO's Sex and the City as the beer drinking, church going mother of Steve. She also appears on The King of Queens and had a role on Law and Order SVU. Anne Meara is currently working on a Comedy Central pilot of her own.
The couple met when both were struggling actors in New York. Embellishment is a Stiller trademark but his account of their first date ended with Meara paying the tab. Unphased she then went on to become his wife in 1954 and the couple has been married for over fifty years.

Tom Cruise and Ben Stiller as Hardy Men?
Ben
Stiller has done killer impersonations of Tom Cruise in the past and now the
two actors will star together in an unusual comedy called The Hardy Men,
according to Stiller himself. The actor told the press, according to Monsters
and Critics, that Cruise will star with him in an updated version of The Hardy
Boys books about the crime-solving teenagers who have finally grown up but
are still up to their old tricks.
Night at the Museum director Shawn Levy will helm the movie starting in October. Monsters and Critics reports that Tom Cruise met with Ben Stiller about possibly starring Ben's newest project Tropic Thunder, a film that mocks the Mission: Impossible trilogy, but that Cruise won't be involved with that project. The site also reports that Cruise sees the Stiller comedy as a way to remold his image after a string of bad publicity and hasn't given up on talking Cruise into taking a part that might poke fun at his serious alter-ego Ethan Hunt.

Will Ferrell to Present at Oscars
It
was confirmed today that Will Ferrell will be a presenter at the Oscars on
Sunday, February 25, 2007. It is speculated that Steve Carell will be in attendance
in support of Best Picture nominee Little Miss Sunshine and may be a presenter
as well. Oscar nominee Sacha Baron Cohen may also be a presenter.
No word on the rest of the Frat Pack stars, though Frat Pack editor Mario Bernengo had a great idea to have Jack Black and Kyle Gass present best song in mock bitterness. "I'm sorry, what? We're here to present the award? I thought you said collect the award."
Look for Tenacious D on Jimmy Kimmell Friday night.
Vanity Fair Cover Scandal
According
to Nikki Finke, the original foursome was supposed to be Will Ferrell,
Sacha Baron Cohen, Ben Stiller and Jack Black. Hollywood sources say manager
Jimmy Miller nixed Will's and Sacha's involvement claiming they were "bigger"
than a shared cover. Anyway, Stiller suggested Owen and Chris join him on
the cover instead.
Thanks for nothing, Jimmy. And I'll happily read about Owen Wilson any day.

Luke Wilson's Barry Munday Back On?
Drew Hunt wrote in with some news about the oft-delayed Barry Munday project
for Luke Wilson.
According to IMDB, Luke Wilson is set to star in a new comedy called "Barry Munday"... Naturally, I did some research on the whole thing, and my conclusion is that this could be legit.
I haven't seen anything mentioning a production company or distribution...but it will apparently be written and directed by a guy named Chris D'Arienzo. It's also based on a novel called "Life Is a Strange Place" by Frank Turner Hollon. Here's the basic premise of the novel:
Barry Munday is a thirty-three year old womanizer who has ignored every facet of his blind quest for casual sex. This obsession leads to the unexpected loss of his most prized possessions — his testicles — in a freakish theatre confrontation. Barry is forced to face the facts: he hates his job, has no real friends, no children, lives alone, and has no mature relationship with a female other than a demented woman named Linda and her Great Dane companion.
After a sour encounter with midgets, curled up on his couch feeling sorry for himself, Barry receives a letter from a lawyer informing him that he may be the father of Ginger Farley's unborn child, conceived prior to the theatre mishap. With no recollection of Ginger Farley or the drunken act of conception, Barry fights his urge to avoid responsibility and finally decides to run headlong into life, embracing the miracle of the birth of his child and the strange adventures that follow.
IMDB says semi-Frat Pack amigos Colin Hanks and Amy Adams will co-star, and according to the people on IMDB, Colin's character "Heavy Metal Greg" replaced a midget in a particularly funny scene.
So I dunno, if this is true, it has a high potential for funny, and I think Luke would pull of a role like that splendidly. I guess we'll see how it plays out, eh?
Rick Duran then wrote in with this assessment of the movie: "I read that script about a year and a half ago. It sounds like this one is stuck in development hell. Which is a shame because if it was made, I have no doubt that it'd be Luke's best performance."
Well, Rick brings the latest word that "But now it seems things are back on track, with shooting scheduled to begin later this year."

They have the official
website up now, including links to a domestic trailer as well as an R-Rated

The trailers feature a good amount of plot from the movie, and hilarious moments from costars Katherine Heigl and Seth Rogen. Also seen are Paul Rudd and Leslie Mann who have real comic timing. Also shown: Jonah Hill (especially effective in the R-Rated trailer), Alan Tudyk (Dodgeball), Kristin Wiig (SNL), and Harold Ramis playing Rogen's father.

Paul Rudd Calls Himself a Frat Pack Pledge
The
Advocate scored an interview with Paul Rudd, and they touched on the recurring
gay themes in his career. Of note, Paul called himself a pledge to the Frat
Pack but is still waiting for an official induction. He also said that Coldplay
was not amused by the "You know how I know you're gay" routine from
The 40 Year-Old Virgin.
"Maybe I’m a pledge, but I haven’t been initiated yet into the brotherhood. It’s been pretty great working with Judd Apatow and a lot of the same people in the last few movies. I really lucked out getting in with that group.
I know for a fact that Coldplay was offended. [Laughs] Yeah, I don’t think Chris Martin found the humor in that scene. And I felt really bad about it after the fact, actually. It was too easy to go for something like Blink 182—you had to use a band that was actually kind of good, and Coldplay just came out because they were so huge at the time. But yeah, somebody told me that they were very offended by it and even put me in the category of Pat Robertson."

Pudding Award for Ben Stiller
Ben Stiller and Scarlett Johansson are this year's recipients of the annual
Hasty Pudding awards, given by a student drama group at Harvard University.
The awards, announced Monday, are given to performers who have made a "lasting
and impressive contribution to the world of entertainment" by Hasty Pudding
Theatricals, the nation's oldest undergraduate drama troupe.
Johansson, 22, will lead a parade through Cambridge on Feb. 15, then attend a roast in her honor and receive the "Pudding Pot." The ceremony for Stiller, 41, is Feb. 23.
Will Arnett, Jenna Fischer Working Way Up Frat Pack Farm System
Two
actors with television credentials are starting to strengthen their ties to
the Frat Pack in their post-Blades of Glory film projects.
Columbia Pictures has set Jenna Fischer to star alongside John C. Reilly in the Jake Kasdan-directed comedy Walk Hard. Judd Apatow and Kasdan wrote the script.
Fischer will spend her hiatus from The Office playing Darlene, a June Carter Cash-like love interest for fictional troubled music legend Dewey Cox (Reilly). Fischer also will sing in a comedy custom-fit for Reilly. Fischer and Reilly recently starred with Seann William Scott in Dimension Films' Quebec, the directorial debut of The Pursuit of Happyness scribe Steve Conrad.
Meanwhile,
New Line Cinema has set Will Arnett for the starting lineup
of Semi-Pro, the comedy about the waning days of the American Basketball
Assn. Arnett joins Will Ferrell, Woody Harrelson and Andre Benjamin in a project
scripted by Scot Armstrong (Old School) and produced by Jimmy Miller
(Talladega Nights). In Semi-Pro, Ferrell plays Jackie Moon,
the owner-player-coach of the fictional Flint, Mich., Tropics. Arnett plays
drunken team announcer Lou Redwood.
Since finishing his run on the sitcom Arrested Development, Arnett has wrapped the Akiva Schaffer-directed Hot Rod for Paramount and starred with Will Forte and Malin Akerman in Bob Odenkirk's The Brothers Solomon for Screen Gems.
Walk Hard and Quebec have been added to the Frat Pack Tribute Friends Movies page. We've also added Semi-Pro and Ferrell/Reilly/McKay's Step Brothers to the More Movies page. We also made some updates to the Frat Pack Circle of Trust diagram, moving Arnett closer to the center, and adding Craig Kilborn and Dave Grohl.
We also moved Blades of Glory costar (and real-life wife of Will Arnett) Amy Poehler into the Pledge circle.
Steve Carell Front and Center for Two Big Screen Actors Guild Awards
Congrats
to Steve Carell for winning two Screen Actors Guild awards Sunday night. Carell
was part of the winning ensembles of Little Miss Sunshine, Ensemble
Cast in a Motion Picture, and The Office, Ensemble in a Comedy Series.
Carell took the mic for The Office win. "Let’s get serious for just one second. Webster’s defines the word “ensemble” as follows: “a complete costume of complementary clothing and accessories.” And even though this is not the right definition, I think it applies to our cast. I’d like to – we’d like to thank Greg Daniels, our executive producer… for being the person who assembled the ensemble, and choosing people who get along, who work well together, who enjoy each other’s company, who are friends. Also Allison Jones who took part in that trip. It’s really a great honor and we will treasure this. Thank you."
In the individual race, Carell lost to Alec Baldwin for Best Actor in a Comedy
Series.

Get Smart Script Details Emerge
A
spoiler-filled
script review of Steve Carell's Get Smart remake has been posted
by Get Smart fansite WouldYouBelieve.com. Rumors are that Alec Balwmin and
Ben Stiller have been approached to appear in small roles.
Having Ben and Steve together would be a treat. Meanwhile, the site is panning
the script.
Joining Carell are Anne Hathaway as Agent 99, along with Terence Stamp as the villian and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson as a good guy.
In a strange "coincidence," secret agents have provided a copy
of the script to The Tribute under trying circumstances (we lost a lot of
great men out there). I'll have a review from a non-Get Smart TV
series fan perspective in a couple days.

AN OPEN LETTER TO THE SHOW-GOERS OF SAN DIEGO
Dear Show-goers of San Diego-
I am writing to you this afternoon in regards to tonight's performance in
your city. I hereby promise that at no time during my set will I make any
reference to the movie Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy. This includes,
but is not limited to, the pronunciation of the area as "sahn-dee-ah-go",
usage of the phrase "stay classy" and any reference to a whale's
vagina. In fact, I will not draw attention to the vaginas of any members in
the particular families within the order Cetacea. You deserve better, and
it's time to let the healing begin. (My girlfriend Roxanne and her friend
Angie were talking about this last night.)

Paul Rudd's Woman in Limited Release in February?
Adam
"Andy Stitzer" Stevenson wrote in with indications that the Paul
Rudd/Michelle Pfeiffer RomCom I Could Never Be Your Woman is back
on the schedule for February 16, but only in limited release. Do we have another
Idiocracy scenario?
Meanwhile, we found a great photo gallery from the movie.
Rudd/Ryder Coming to Theatres in The Ten
ThinkFilm has bought North American theatrical distribution rights
to the Ten Commandments satire "The Ten," whose cast include Winona
Ryder and Paul Rudd.
The indie partnered on the $4.5 million deal with City Lights Home Entertainment,
which will handle DVD and digital distribution. Both companies will share
all revenues. An August theatrical release is planned.
The episodic film, directed by David Wain, also features Jessica Alba and
Adam Brody, Liev Schreiber, Justin Theroux, Gretchen Mol, Oliver Platt and
Famke Janssen.
The film was described as "a very smart brand of seemingly dumb comedy" by Mark Urman, the head of ThinkFilm's U.S. theatrical operations. "We thought it was a hilarious, funny, movie, and that if we brought it to an audience with brains and style, it would have the ability to do better than (ThinkFilm's) 'The Aristocrats' or 'Strangers with Candy"' Urman added.

Cohen, Phillips Score Oscar Noms; Dream is Over for Will Ferrell
Congratulations
to Frat Pack Friends Sacha Baron Cohen and Todd Philips for their Oscar nomination
for Best Adapted Screenplay for Borat Cultural Learnings of America for
Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan. Though Cohen was shut out
of the acting races, the screenplay nom is surely a very fine consolation
prize. Todd Phillips, you may recall, was the original director of Borat,
but left the project shortly after filming started due to creative differences.
Meanwhile, Steve Carell's indie comedy Little Miss Sunshine received four noms, including Best Picture and Best Screenplay. Sunshine actors Abigail Breslin and Alan Arkin scored supporting actor nominatios but Steve himself was not nominated. Carell becomes the first Frat Pack actor to star in a movie nominated for Best Picture.
Finally, the dream of getting Will Ferrell an Oscar nod is over, at least for this year. In fact, Stranger Than Fiction failed to pick up any Oscar nominations. I guess Will will have to be happy with his dual Earmuff noms.
Talladega Nights Leads Frat Pack Earmuff Award Nominations
Talladega
Nights led all nominations with 24 total nominations. Other multiple
nominees included Tenacious D in the Pick of Destiny (16), The
Break-Up (13), Stranger Than Fiction (10), You, Me and Dupree
(9), My Super-Ex Girlfriend (5), Little Miss Sunshine (4),
Nacho Libre and Night at the Museum (3), Idiocracy
and The Daily Show (2).
Leading individual nominations were Will Ferrell and Steve Carell with 5 total nominations each, Ben Stiller and John C. Reilly (3), Vince Vaughn, Owen Wilson, Jack Black, Sacha Baron Cohen, Jon Favreau, and Emma Thompson (2).

Steve Carell's Untitled Project Has Frat Pack Fingerprints
Rick Duran returns with a hypothesis that certainly sounds intriquing.
I
was watching Poor Man's clip of Steve
and Greg Kinnear on Ellen. I think Steve gave a preview of the "Untitled
Steve Carell Project" (which he supposedly
wanted Vince, Will, Owen, and Luke for.) At the beginning of the clip,
Steve starts talking about a trip he took with college friends, backpacking
through Europe. That's the exact plot for his untitled script. First Steve
says it was a "dream", but then he say it's true. If it was a true
story, I think Steve could write a really fun semi-autobiographical screenplay.
So, watch the first 2 or 3 minutes of that Steve interview, then read this
paragraph:
"His soon-to-be-started script—for which Universal bought the pitch without ever seeing a word in print—is about a group of middle-aged friends on the European backpacking trip they never took after college, Carell wants to convince his fellow members of the Frat Pack to co-star. He lists Vince Vaughn, Luke and Owen Wilson, and Will Ferrell among his targets for some of the roles, mentioning that “it would be great to work with those guys again.”"
Also: If Vince/Will/Owen/Luke aren't in the budget, maybe a reteaming with Greg Kinnear could be fun. Obviously, we want another Frat Pack movie, but I'm just saying Kinnear's not a bad alternative.
Steve Carell Projects Win Big at Producers Guild Awards
It was a good night for fans of Steve Carell, with both Little Miss Sunhine
and The Office winning their respective awards at the Producers Guild
Awards last night. This makes Sunshine more than just a lock for
an Oscan nomination for Best Picture, it actually means it could contend for
the win!
Meanwhile, it's nice to see continued praise for The Office, which NBC renewed for a fourth season earlier this week.

Fundraiser Draws Big Bucks, Frat Pack Stars
"Can we be real people?" Host Judd Apatow put the question
to a sellout crowd that gathered Tuesday night to honor philanthropic wannabe
Seth Rogen in the name of Dave Eggers' 826 LA charity. As it turned out, the
answer was yes. Ben Stiller, Ron Meyer, J.J. Abrams and Edward Norton ate
KFC box dinners, handed to each guest as they walked inside the Vanguard.
Onstage, Dave Grohl kept his cool while being groped by Will Ferrell as they
dueted on "Leather and Lace."
The event still netted a quarter million -- enough for 826LA to open a writing and tutoring center in Echo Park. (Variety) (thanks to Rick and Laura for the research on this project).

Anchorman's David Koechner Debuts on Comedy Central's "Naked
Trucker and T-Bones Show"
The long awaited musical / sketch / improv comedy show debuts 10:30
pm on Wednesday, January 17th on Comedy Central. Will Ferrell is rumored to
appear on the debut episode, and look for Jack Black, Kyle Gass, Steve Carell,
Paul Rudd, Andy Richter, and Nancy Walls in future episodes.
"Comedy Central brings you the twisted tales of a naked trucker and his freeloading sidekick in our brand new series, The Naked Trucker & T-Bones Show. The Naked Trucker is a long-haul driver who preaches the gospel of 'live and let live" in a world of 'us versus them." His sidekick, T-Bones, is always looking for an angle to work and not nearly as dumb as he looks."
Sacha Baron Cohen wins Golden Globe; Ferrell, Carell Shut Out
Congrats to Borat's Sacha Baron Cohen for winning Best Actor
- Comedy/Musical at the Golden Globes. The Frat Pack friend beat his Talladega
Nights costar Will Ferrell who was nominated for Stranger Than Fiction.
Last year's Globe winner Steve Carell lost the Best Actor TV - Comedy award to Along Came Polly's Alec Baldwin for 30 Rock. Borat, as well as Carell's nominated feature film Little Miss Sunshine, lost the Best Picture race to Dreamgirls.
Sacha Baron Cohen and Isla Fisher
Will Ferrell (carrying a breast pump) and wife Viveca Paulin
Steve Carell looking quite like his Bewitched ancestor,
Paul Lynde
Ben Stiller to Star and Direct Tropic Thunder
Stiller
is starring as an action movie star who, along with four other macho co-stars,
is forced to rely on his boot camp skills to stay alive when things go horribly
awry on their new movie. Ben co-wrote the comedy screenplay with Justin Theroux
(Zoolander, Charlie's Angels Full Throttle) and Etan Cohen (Idiocracy).
Production is set to begin in July.
So, who will fill those four other costar roles? Now, as you might imagine, we have some thoughts of who we think might be good for this movie. Hmmm, who could they be? Unfortunately, Will Ferrell is unavailable due to Step Brothers filming in July, and Vince Vaughn seems unlikely due to salary demands. Steve Carell is also likely out due to filming of The Office.
Somewhat more likely could be Ben's frequent costar, Owen Wilson. Luke Wilson might make an easygoing counterpart for intense Ben and more importantly might have the time. Oddsmakers should put their money on someone like Jack Black or Paul Rudd. Even more likely is one of Ben's pals such as Patton Oswalt, Rob Corddry, Steve Coogan. Or even Theroux himself.
You know we'll be monitoring this one closely...
Real Life School of Rock
Jack Black was so impressed when he spotted to pre-teen buskers on
the streets of Christchurch, New Zealand on January 8, that he asked the duo
to perform at the Tenacious D concert in the city the following night.
Ten year old Alex Philpott and eleven year old Max Tetley performed a cover of Bob Dylan’s ‘All Along the Watchtower’ at the show on last Tuesday night before Jack and bandmate Kyle Gass took to the stage. Alex described the experience as “amazing” and added “We’ll be scoring heaps of chicks!”. Max, meanwhile, was a little overawed by it all and couldn’t focus on the groupies: “I was just trying not to wet myself, honestly.” (Fametastic)
Interview with Things To Do's Theodore Bezaire and Mike Stasko
“Bottle
Rocket is the only film that I'll admit to stealing from”
Mike Stasko also admits to quoting Bottle Rocket all the time “just 'cause it's awesome”, and the Frat Pack classic Zoolander. The co-writer and star of the Canadian indie gem Things To Do is in Chicago this weekend along with the director and co-writer Theodore Bezaire to attend the US premiere of their first feature. We e-mailed them a bunch of questions, pressed them for a scoop on Mike's co-star Daniel Wilson and his cousins, Owen and Luke, and exhorted them for an opinion on the Frat Pack. They were gracious enough to write us back anyway. We ended up getting an insight into the reality of two young and very talented independent filmmakers… and a scoop on Daniel Wilson. And an opinion on the Frat Pack. And the best reason yet why you should never rely on a more famous relative to promote your movie. A hint: the reason's brother just came out with the sixth installment about a certain Stallion. And no, it ain't Butterscotch.

Our reviewer Mario Bernengo gave the film four stars and called the movie "a touchingly sincere celebration of the only things that make life worth living: our family, our friends and our dreams." Mario also noted the film is a "cult classic in the making," which is being used in the film's promotial flyers according to a note from the film's director Theodore Bezaire.

Vince and Jen Win People's Choice Awards
Jennifer Aniston was named Favorite Female Movie Star and Vince
Vaughn was named Favorite Leading Man during Tuesday night's 33rd annual People's
Choice Awards. Aniston thanked the audience and said ""Thank you
for loving 'The Break-Up" - I did." Aniston later thanked Vince
who she called a "dear friend, fantastic friend, who is so talented."
Vaughn repaid the compliment when he accepted his award, saying "You know when I was a young boy in Illinois, acting was just a dream to me. And --- I'm just kidding. I'm not going to put you on a long run through something like that. Just want to say thank you guys very much. My costar Jennifer Aniston, one of the funniest, most genuine people I know, she's the best. I want to thank the entire cast of the movie, everyone that worked on it. Most of all I'd like to thank you guys. Thanks for thinking of me. All the best to you. Thank you. Happy New Year to you guys. [I] appreciate it."

Australian Empire Magazine's Top 10 Scene Stealers
Thanks to Karen Pok for the reference. 1. Jack Nicholson, Batman
, 2. Peter Sellers, The Pink Panther, 3. Jack Black, High Fidelity,
4. John Malkovich, Rounders, 5. Clyde, Every Which Way But Loose, 6. Joe Pesci,
GoodFellas, 7. Kevin Kline, A Fish Called Wanda, 8. Will Ferrell,
Wedding Crashers, 9. Tom Cruise, Magnolia, 10. R. Lee Ermey, Full

Empire)
3. Jack Black, High Fidelity (2000)
In retrospect, it's hard to believe someone of Jack Black's hyperative presence
could've been regulated to supporting roles for so long (The NeverEnding
Story III? Waterworld?), but his turn as an obnoxious indie
record store clerk was the one that launched him onto the A-List. Mopey lead
John Cusack didn't stand a chance against a co-star who burst into the film
gyrating his goodly girth to "Walking on Sunshine", belittling a
yuppie stiff for his taste in bad Stevie Wonder, and berating a movie's star
for spoprting a "Cosby sweater." To seal the deal, he brings down
the house with a spectacular impersonation of Marvin Gaye's "Let's Get
it On", at which point you'd barely notice the resolution of the main
romance.
8. Will Ferrell, Wedding Crashers (2005)
Should he ever tire of headlining genius comedies, the king of the hollered
non-sequitur could make a living from his second job stealing lesser laugh-fests.
His arch fashion villain Mugatu runs riot in Zoolander ("Oh,
I'm sorry - did my pin get in the way of your ass?!") and his belly-button
loving inmate Big Earl is better than than the rest of Starsky & Hutch
put together. It's Wedding Crashers, though, which takes the cake.
As washed-up mentor Chazz, Ferrell is brilliantly depraved playing a guy who's
stooped to picking up girls at funerals. "The chicks are so horny."
he explains, in betweeen bellowing at his Ma for more meatloaf, because "grief
is nature's most powerful aphrodisiac."
Museum Number One Again
According to Box Office
Guru, "The Ben Stiller comedy Night at the Museum easily
topped the charts over the weekend with an estimated $24M in its third weekend
of play boosting its cume to a stellar $164.1M. Down only 35% from the Friday-to-Sunday
portion of the New Year's holiday frame, the Fox blockbuster matched the comedian's
hit Meet the Fockers from two years ago which also topped the charts
over the same three weekends. With its lucrative start and impressive holding
power, Museum should be able to zoom past the $200M mark domestically."
Owen and Kate Split
More sad Frat Pack relationship news, as US
Magazine is reporting that Owen Wilson and Kate Hudson are no longer romantically
involved.
I guess Kate can get over Owen by getting one of these...

Hank Azaria in Talks to Direct Outsourced; Vince and Owen
No Longer Attached
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Dodgeball and Along
Came Polly costar Hank Azaria is in talks to make his directorial debut
in Outsourced. Outsourced is the story of an American factory
that is shut down and transported to Mexico. Two men from the production line
venture south of the border to get their jobs back. Columbia bought the pitch
in 2004 from scribe Timothy Dowling as a starring vehicle for Vince Vaughn
and Owen Wilson. Currently, no cast is attached.
Show Report from New Year's Eve Vince Vaughn's Wild West Comedy Show
From Rovostrov on the Vince-Vaughn.com
Forums.
The
show was the same format, with Peter Billingsley, Jon Favreau, and Justin
Long as the special guests. The lineup was Ahmed, Sebastian, Brett and John.
Vince and Peter did the steroids skit, with Peter telling a story about the
producer and how Vince got the part I hadn't heard before. Next sketch was
Vince and Justin doing the dodgeball sketch, though from what Vince said it
seemed Jon was supposed to go out first as he said they couldn't find the
person who was supposed to be there (I got a little worried then since I figured
it was Jon he was talking about). Then Vince introduced Jon. There was some
back and forth between the two, with Jon also picking at Justin's body of
work (he did like GalaxyQuest however). All in good fun.
Jon and Justin did a scene from Swingers with Justin as Trent (impersonating Vince), with Vince at the side laughing it up. Jon and Vince then did a Dinner for Five sketch with Justin as their server which was pure Vince & Jon quips and barbs. Loved it! After Cap's set, Vince came out with the Mancation Dancers (Jon & Justin are members now!) and did the Mama Mia dance tribute. With a few minutes left before midnight, Vince & Jon led the Sweet Caroline singalong which segued into the countdown and Auld Lang Syne with ballons everywhere. Vince and the troupe closed the show with well wishes and it was over. The comics all had new material, with Sebastian being the most notable. It was a great show and definitely worth the trip. I hope it translates well to the screen.

The Best Only Blades of Glory Preview Video To Date
